Its time for my 135 to get some new rear rubber. I have 26157 on the clock. I have decided to stay with rft,s for now. Prices seem to range from R5000 per Tyre for dunlop to around R3250 for bridgestone.
I plan to refit OEM bridestone. The dealer wanted R3300 plus vat just to supply and they have no stock???
I got a quote yesterday from HiQ for R3250 fitted.
Anyone think this is a bad deal?
Anything I,m overlooking?

That price is not too bad. There was a shortage of Bridgestone in the country, so if they are available, get them.

In Durban
front 215/40R18 I got for R2900 each
back 245/35R18 I got for R3200 each

TWT were R4800 (whatever they were smoking must have been good)

RFT Bridgestone are definitely the way to go.

I am waiting for Tyretraders to get stock of Pirelli P Zero RFT's - but in reality, I think I am done with RFT's and their tramlining character. Much rather fit normal tyres, especially on 18" wheels, which I am planning on getting!

I found my Bridgestone RFTs only started tramlining when they were very badly worn. Mine were so worn in fact, that the guy at the tyre place said that had I not had RFTs, he is pretty sure the side wall would have given way. The new RFTs I have fitted are just perfect. Really can't tell the difference between these and regular non-RFTs, and the bonus is I have peace of mind that they are safer, especially for South African road conditions. I hit a pothole the other day so hard that the fillings in my teeth loosened  I guarantee you, that had I not had RFTs, I would have had a blow-out and a buckled rim, and stranded in the middle of the road between Ixopo and the coast.

I understand every product has pros and cons, but when it comes to RFTs the pros far outweigh the cons.

I recommend you stick to RFTs :)

Well that is fair enough! If the tyres are mostly free of tramlining most of their life, then that is of course fine with me. But I cannot justify spending the sort of money they want for these tyres just for a crashy and tramlining ride. This is what the Continental RFT's on my car are like.

What kit do you have in mind? Does that include the biscuit spare & jack?

Personally, I dont like the the Bridgestone RFT in 18", the Mitchellins on the other hand are just epic! I've done around 26000km with mine now, front still has 70% left rears around 50% left... I dont 'nurse' these tires either, but I check pressures on a weekly basis and make 100% sure that the they are 100% on spec pressure wise. Also keep them filled with Nitrogen, but dont know if that makes a differance.

En hulle sit soos k@k in n wol kombers...
