Hi Jerry
Jip, one of the best cars you can drive. You can look at R100k over a 5 year period depending on the condition and km on engine.
I had various minor issues on mine but more of a irritation than anything else:
1. telephone system - not receiving calls had to get fixed by bmw
2. handbrake issue - due to battery
3. R2,5k paid for new battery - one cause of some errors
4. linked to battery was alternator issue that caused the car to go into 'safe mode' more than once - cant drive faster than 80km/h and go to dealer asap. Altenator R10k labour an tow-in included
5. set of new run flat tires R20k for the set
6. Average price for oil change service at dealer R2,5k every 7500km and R5k for major service excluding micro-filter change etc
7. reconditioning of turbo R17k
7 series is a great car but can hurt your pocket big time. You might be able to buy a gem of a car and have not one issue like i have. mine is unfortunately the pre-facelift (2003 model) and is known for electric and other issues. as soon as the car is out of motor plan you find it difficult to get parts. The dealer explained it to me this way:
the car was R600k out of the box, you bought it for R200k and 6 years later, still same car with same parts that made up that R600k!!!
I dont want to put you off a 7, the best ride you can get!!!
