issue with creating a wifi setup with router

Hi guys, hopefully someone can assist.

my issue is i have a fibre connection at home, and i have been using the normal adsl/broadband cable to connect to the internet, via the port on the PC (forgive my misuse of terms, i know nothing in this field).

now i received an Ipad mini (wifi only) as a gift, so i bought a router, hoping to create a wifi connections via this port in the wall.

i manage to setup some kind of connection via the laptop, (don't know how i did this), so the laptop can connect wirelessly now. but i can't connect using the Ipad. the ipad picks up the router, and when i click on the connection, it prompts for a password which i enter and then it shows a blue tick, but i can't browse the net.

someone please expand my knowledge on this

What router ?

Could be dhcp thats not dishing out dns, or mac filtering, or a host of things.

Some things to try first:

1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.

2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html

4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are drooping internet connection)
• Launch Settings app
• Tap on Wi-Fi
• Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
• In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button.

Its a Hauwei HG532 or something, not at home now bud, will take a pic tonight. but its the normal broadband cable that you get at incredible connection or so. it has that big copper head.

It doesnt sound like a problem getting an IP address. I think you need to check that the WiFi and etherner ports are bridged and allow traffic through.

Can your fibre router not have Wifi built in?

i think the problem is the router is for ADSL, i need to get a router for broadband.

i'm selling the ipad, don't really need it. should have decided this before i opened the packaging

if its wireless - it will work, just need to sort the setting, if it works on the laptop, then the settings are with the iPad.
