Is this a fault?

Hallo all,

Is this a fault on the locking system of the E46 - the indicators light up when locking the car, but not when unlocking, is this a fault or is this normal?

If one of your doors are open , e.g. your boot might be popped open, then the indicators will not flash to show you one of the doors is open.

So yes all your doors are shut and your car is "normal".

When I unlock my interior lights light up. I think this can be programmed.

What do you mean by light up? Does it stay light up or just blink when locking? This is not a fault but a feature

Sorry, meant to say no indicators.

Seems to be normal, both my E38 and the E39 flash their indicators (Hazard) when locking, but no flashing when unlocking

My E39 will flash indicators when locking, and then unlocking only the driver door with the first press of the unlock button. The second press of the button to unlock the rest of the doors has no flashing indicators.

Both e39 M5's, both e36's the X5 and e46 flash when locking and not when unlocking, when it does not flash you have open door or the boot is open.

My E39 flashes when locking and not when unlocking. But not with the spare key. Keys are programmable

O.K so it is normal when the car locks it blinks and unlocks it does not? I think it is a good idea anyway as regards to security, these days it is not safe if everyone knows you have unlocked your car, this way no one knows you have unlocked it or even know which car is yours until you actually open the door to get in.
