Is it something I should worry about

Good morning BMFanatics

Compliments of the New Year, may 2016 be the year you achieve all it is you intended to achieve. God bless your families, business and friends!

I utilised the search thread and could not find a similar issue.

In point form:
1. I parked the BMW at 5pm.
2. Then went outside (approximately 7pm) to replenish the water of my dogs and heard the fan running.
3. Upon inspection it emanated from the BMW 's engine.
4. I then unlocked the doors of said vehicle and it stopped.
5. Then locked again and inspected the vehicle 2 hours later...quiet.
6. This morning switched vehicle on, and received a battery discharge error message.

Questions:

1. Is this a common occurrence with the F30 320d?
2. Is it as a result of the heatwave, registered a 39 degrees Celsius midday yesterday?
3. This is a new vehicle (low kilo's), would it be advisable to book it in for a diagnostic check?

Thanks

There is a reason your car has Motorplan - USE IT!

A guy at work had the exact same issue... Problem was intermittent but got worse with time.

Car was at Sandton auto a good few times and eventually they found the issue... He's not technical, so had no idea, but it was an electrical issue according to him.

It's definitely not normal for fan to run till battery is drained enough for a warning to pop up.

I had that problem on my E46, when arrived at home the fan would be running while I parked the car. Switched the car off and went into the house, fan still blasting. Come out 30min later fan still blasting, thought what the h@ll.

Long story short the problem was my FSU was going and it will have the fan running continuously draining the battery. And imagine it was an auto, so ya, I had a few horrible days.

Is the fan sound from the left near the front window? Like the aircon unit? My 335i did this once... Late last year, I went back to the garage and heard that noise then opened the car and locked it again and it was gone, never did it before or since ... Even in this heat ..

Guess I'll book mine in too!!

This happened once on my M135. Exact same thing, heard the noise. Unlocked the car, noise went away. Also was about an hour or two since the last drive.
I did not get any messages, didn't notice this again.

Hi BMlovers

The car is at the dealership. The After service dude says that it is due to the extreme heat. I told him it does not add up. When the vehicle was switched off the fan did not remain on. It went on after standing for about an hour or so. I am sure it's an electrical fault or something...

@ cOlDFuSiOn , it emanated from the driver's side.

The vehicle is standard, no conversions. Wish it had some extra ponies. Only gripe I have with said vehicle is how slow it is.

I will keep you folks posted when I collect her later this arvie...

Okay cool thanks for letting me know, my noise was definitely from the passenger side under the plastic covers close to the wipers, a fan over there, no I don't know if it's the blower fan or some other fan to keep things cool.. But has not happened again yet..

Hi BM fanatics

Collected the vehicle Friday evening. Dealership advised me that they recharged the battery, no faults found.

My opinion, new vehicles have way too much electronics. I used to have these niggles with the Audi as well.

Cheers!

This used to happen on some of the new Audis I used to drive. But after some mileage is put onto the car it goes away.

Glad you got the car back BUT seriously they assume it was a dead or almost dead battery that caused your cars fan to come on, WOW what has this country come to.

No real diagnostics, just a almost dead battery, recharge and BOB's your uncle.......this is BS.

Wonder what they going to say if you return it with the same problem.....but again with a dead battery everything is possible.

Glad you got the car back, hope it is sorted
