Is an increase in fuel consumption a symptom?

Hi guys

Recently I've notices an increase in my fuel consumption. I used to average about 9.7 l/100km. Now I'm up to 11.2 l/100km.

Driving style hasn't changed, the only thing that has changed is the weather (winter temperatures). Also I don't live very far from work, about 4 km.

Could the increase in fuel consumption be a symptom of something going wrong?

The car in question is a 2006 323i Exclusive, with 115 xxx km on the clock.

Thanks

It might be a symptom of a heavy foot.

On a serious note, if there is more traffic, your consumption will go up.

Makes sense, the engine takes much longer to warm up. Warm-up enrichment adds a LOT of fuel - in some cases up to 100%

It will not be so severe if your commute was longer and the engine spent a bigger percentage of its time already warmed up. There is nothing you can do, just be happy that you only need to commute 4km.

when my consumption went up, it was because the VVT Motor was on its way out...

What other symptoms did you have?

- consumption went up
- car was down on power, was a dud
- was a bit rough on idle(not a lot but you could hear it more rowdy)

Will have the codes read. This will show up on a diagnostic, right?

interesting , I notice my cold start consumption is heavier than when warm , so temperature must play a role .
