Hi Guys

I have got a BMW 320I - 2012 Model
Engine 1 failed at +- 76000 km and a new short block was replaced by BMW

About an hour before collecting car I was told replacement short block had also failed .

3rd Short block installed with 2 year warranty .

Car has now done +- 121 000 km and I am told Injectors have to be replaced and BMW will cover 50 % of total cost of R 23 000 .

I have complained to BMW South Africa and have requested they review their decision .

I have asked why what caused 2 Engine failures and do not get an answer

Any comments

2012 N20 engines were particularly crap unfortunately. It's not an accurate assessment of the quality of the engines across the range though or when the N20 was updated in 2013. As to the second failure, who knows could have been shoddy installation or just bad luck.

Good Morning

Thanks for the feed back . One would think that BMW Southa Africa
are aware of this and should give the customer the benefit of the doubt
for warranty purposes

Hi Barry.

Sorry to hear about all the trouble. I also have an 2012 320i and had all my injectors replaced by BMW while still under motorplan at 50,000km. So far so good. Besides the injectors I've been getting the "Drivetrain Malfunction" error a couple of times... Likewise, this is my 5th BMW and it is sad to say but I do not have much confidence in these F30 / N20 engines and I'm currently close to 90,000km. Since the car is out of motorplan I have been taking the car to my personal mechanic / technician who's been working on my cars for years and I make sure that I do a decent oil service every 10,000 km's. My next worry / concern is the timing belt... this failure is well documented on the web.

Anyways, all of the best. Regards,

Salwynne
