Hi guys I have just read the post and felt positively cheated after reading 5 pages to find the thread closed since I do wish to contribute albeit most superficially to it ;
1) The sentiments expressed by some of the posters espousing calm and a non conflictual approach under such severe provocation let me question if I am getting too old , has the youngsters changed that much (Im mid 30's).
2) If someone had to utter somethinh like that or similiar to me then colloquially speaking " sou hy gwala het hoe die nommer bokant hom change "
3) Upon gaining consciousness a few weeks later he would have rued the day he let a slip of the tongue cause him that much pain .
3) The fearful stories of arrest and prosecution whilst possible do not reflect the true state of the law as it stands succintly put if confronted and you reasonably fear or apprehend physical attack even if you are wrong a preemptive attack may be launched and the key is not to punch twice where the circumstances dictate once is enough ie no excessive force.
4) Also remember calling someone a derogatory name can amount to crimen iniuria which is a criminal offence (schedule 7 if im not mistaken )
5)if a comment is made to your spouse or wife /girlfriend you may defend her honor within reason no excessiveness
6) To the chap that was charged R90k by an attorney to defend his assault case and was still found guilty my condolences you were reamed good and solid since a case like that should not have cost more than a fifth that amount and is so simple that a trained chimpanzee could do it . Attorneys work in accordance with a scale and cant over charge its known as overreaching and an ethical offence (PM if you want more info)
7)Lastly bravo to the chap that punched the guys lights out and whilst I do realise that all civilised people abhor uneccessary violence and one certainly wouldnt advocate it however check your history and see that this world was and is made a better safer place by strong ,principled men not namby pamby apologists.
All that is required for evil to prevail is for good men to do nothing -Edmund Burke
