Idling issue - E36 316

Hey all,

I have bought a second hand E36 316, which is in really good nick except for a few small niggling issues (Actuators on two doors need to be replaced, roof lining must be redone etc.) but all in all solid car and still runs like a dream @215000 km's. Only issue of concern for me is the idling on the car. Whether hot or cold, it idles around 1500RPM. Sometimes it jumps between 1000RPM and 1500RPM but mainly sits around 1500RPM. Any ideas on where to start looking to resolve this?

Cheers

check codes but possible vacuum leak.

On the 316, how do you check the codes? I know on the other models with the OBC you can run diagnostic tests etc, but not sure how to check the codes on the 316

I have a 1995 316i manual with 360k km on the clock. When i got it two years ago the roof lining was hanging on my head. Took out the roof lining, got some black speaker material from the sound guys and a tin of contact adhesive from Midas, stripped the old lining off the cardboard backing and cleaned it with sunlight liquid. Stuck the speaker material on with the contact adhesive and put the lining back in the car. Started at 12 noon, worked a bit, had lunch, drove into town to get the speaker material and adhesive, came back and continued with the job. At 5 o'clock the lining was back in, the sunvisors, etc. fixed and the car looked like a million dollars.
