i5 3570k owners

Hey guys. Just a quick question. Ive just swapped out my i5 2400 in my gaming rig for an i5 3570k. My question is that when it starts up the fan sounds very loud for a few seconds then quietens down which i found weird.. Now im no noob to pc's im a comp engineer but found this unusual.. I havent built a 3570k for my customers as i build budget cctv pc's. Any i5 owners or people can comment. Any info is appreciated thanks.. I did check research it and other gamers stated that i might be a cpu feature like some of the high end gpu's.

Yeah im using the stock fan for now. Im going to pick up a hyper 212 evo. Best budget price/performance cooler on the market lol. And it doesnt take up much space. And thanks alot bro would appreciate your reply as this cpu is a day old and if the cpu fan is faulty gotta have it replaced. By the way whats your rigs specs going to be like ?

I have not build an i5 yet, I might be wrong but does it not do that to get dust off the fans? I think it might be a build in feature...Let us know.

As you stated it might be an option on the new cpus. I have an i7-2600k running at 4.5Ghz with a closed loop so can't comment there but I do have 2 680s which run the fans in the opposite direction at high speeds. This is a feature provided that supposedly blows away dust that might have formed on the cooler. I don't think it's something to stress about. Congrats on the new rig! maybe a full spec on what you got? :thumbs:

3570k rig is for a friend. She doesn't have a stock cooler though.

I have the i5 3570K i haven't noted any such noise at start-up. Then I don't use the stock HSF - I use the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo Turbo.

But I didn't read that the 3570K is supposes to have this "feature".

I do have have a Gigabyte 670GTX OC Edition 2GB DDR5 with 3 Windforce fans. These fans do blow in the opposite direction the first few seconds to clear dust before returning to normal. However I don't hear any noticeable difference in noise.:thumbs:

I decided to have a look and see if my PC needs some cleaning inside:

All in all fairly clean just some dust inside the fan on the heatsink:thumbs:

Everythink else inside is still clean

Now it looks new again:joy:

Sorry guys for not responding earlier was at work. Thanks for the responses.. My previous i5 2400 didnt run at max rpm when booting up but this one does which i found strange but that was a 2nd gen cpu. That fan runs at higher ampage though.. Not that it would affect the current stock fan.. I read a few gaming forums and the guys said it might be a feature or the board spinning it up fast then adjusting voltage.. A few guys stated that their one does it aswell. Im just a bit worried as it sounds like a turbine on startup for a few seconds then quietens down.. Will speak to my supplier on monday though.. My rigs specs are as follows : Aerocool Xpredator X1 Devil red edition case with built in fan controller i also have a 2nd aerocool 6way controller. Case has 7 fans in total. Intel Dz77bh55k motherboard, i5 3570k cpu stock fan, 16 gigs 1333mhz patriot ram, Xfx procore 750w gaming supply (internally a seasonic unit).. Gigabyte Hd7950 windforce 3 3gig gpu, 23 inch philips 1080p l.e.d monitor for fps gaming and a 42 inch 1080p Lg 3d tv for racing games.. Sound is covered by a pioneer amp driving a kenwood surround system and a sansui amp driving 2 x 12inch xtc to take care of the low freq punch.. Not sure if i missed anything but thats more or less it..:joy:

check in the bios, normally you can set fan control in there for the cpu, personally my cpu doesn't do it but my graphics card does say start up

Is it possible that the fan is just noisy as it is new and hasnt worn in yet ?

No.

My 1st gen i5 also does it. It basically depends on the motherboard. The extent of it will depend on the max rpm of the cooler. Just get a proper cooler and don't worry about it.

Yes, most likely a motherboard feature, but odd that it won't do it with the old fan. However, to me that's normal behavior. All the fans in my current, yet old, PC does this. As soon as it powers up all the fans go full speed and then quite down with some even switching off once the system starts reading temps. But again, my PC is old (and AMD) so not really a fair comparison.

Personally I don't think it's something to really worry about. My very old AMD 3200+ on a Chaintech motherboard would switch the CPU fan completely off when the CPU temp was below 30. That really freaked out some of my friends who were used to really hot AMD systems.

What motherboard do you have though?

I have an intel dz77bh55k motherboard. Really nice board.. Alot of extras. 4 rear usb3, firewire, sli ready.. From what i can gather it might be spinning very fast due to using half the old fans ampage..
Spoke to my supplier and they want me to bring my processor in. I told them to just get me a replacement fan..

This is normal, I wouldn't say it's a CPU feature, but a motherboard feature seeing that the motherboard controls the CPU fan.

Its basically a feature that keeps the fan on the lowest speed as possible while keeping the CPU cold, you can set it in the bios not to control the fan and you can set the speed manually.

It really isn;t something to be concerned about. It's just due to the voltage can't be adjusted when computer is off, once it's turned on it starts from the highest voltage (RPMS) and goes down to the safe RPM range, if it really bothers you just turn off auto adjustment

Ive tried manual adjustment. It still started high. Think i might have to live with it till the aftermarket cooler. The other option is to return both cpu and hsf.. Which is going to a long process.
