How old must a BMW be to become a Classic, or to be registered as one?

Stand to be corrected but think if any car is 50 years old it gets a special Licence.

So if any E30 lasts another 25 years in South Africa, especially a 325i or 325iS, it will be a rare classic indeed ...

To be exempt from annual licensing, vehicle has to comply to a lot of criteria. Not easy...... (see from point 20) http://www.polity.org.za/polity/govdocs/regulations/1999/roadregs03.html

As far as I know (and am speaking under correction), 40 years plus and the car is considered a classic. If you join some sort of legitimate and active classic car club (most likely for that particular car/brand) then you can apply for a special "classic" license and either don't have to pay for it, or pay considerably less...
