How much for M54B25 + DME?

I can pick up an E46 320i for a good price (i.e. very low), but the 2.2 motor was toast and has been replaced with a motor from a 325i Touring. It is running with the 320i DME, but badly, of course. This replacement motor is also toast, having done approx 180000km in unknown condition and unknown service history, it has a misfire and heavy oil consumption.

How much would another used M54B25 + DME or M54B22 cost that would not require a rebuild?

I could call Bemows, but wanted to test the forum wisdom first.

The purpose would be to have a beater car for all the varsity students who sponge off me currently (i.e. grown kids living at home).

I have seen price vary a lot from R15k-R25k. Check what DME is in there. It might be the correct one that just need to be reprogrammed.

I would expect close to R15-20K , ecu -haggle a bit , maybe give old motor in as well and get ecu free :thumbs:

Apparently the M54B25 motor runs (badly) on the M54B22 DME which has been remapped, but the history and whodunnit are unknown. If the DME is the same for either motor, I suppose the remap could be corrected? :dunno:

probably just needs a proper map... i see you in PTA so chiplogic is close... they know these cars well i would use them
