How do you change the Motorplan on to my name

I am not sure about the checks, but from what I have seen it seem to be something like R3000 to transfer the motorplan. Though I am probably not the best person to comment about this as I have never owned a BMW under motorplan

Hi Guys,
I have purchased a BMW and need to transfer the MP on to my name, how does this work?

Phone one of the better dealers in your area and ask. You obviously bought the car privately as the dealer I bought from did it all for me and they weren't BMW.

Yes, a quality check gets done before the change. The bill could be yours or the dealer if you bought it from them. When I did a quality check it cost R1500. They have to top up the oil and I had to pay for it also.
So prepare yourself for paying

If you bought from a dealer (BMW or not) they should do it for you, as dealers have to give you a minimum 6 month warranty on a car (according to CPA - don't quote me on exact details though ...) and MP is the easiest way for dealers to do this. However, you may still need to pay for it.

If you bought privately, ask the previous owner to do one more MP claim with all the issues on the car. THEN take the car for a quality check. Someone can confirm, but I think you can only do a MP transfer within 3 days of having the quality check done. Prices seem to vary from dealer to dealer, but it seems to be around the R2k mark.

I also got my MP changed to my name by the dealer at no charge. Then again I also got a new set of Bridgestones, a towbar, bonnet respray and R20k discount back then with the car. I (sometimes) love dealers :)

The "motor plan transfer" is simply put a barrier for all non dealer sales. Hey charge for a "inspection" of the vehicle prior to Motorplan accepting the change in ownership. On my Z4 M Coupe I came in at R1650.00 and I got no value from that money. All the issues with the car were NOT identified and the Motorplan was transferred. You are paying to ensure that Motorplan are not saddled with any "modifications". Unfortunately you do not have a choice... So bend over... It's going to be a painful ride!

MP on the car I bought 2 weeks ago was transferred on Monday. Dealer paid for it, said it set them back R3k. They did ask me to pay at first but eventually coughed it up themselves.
Good Luck.

i bought the car privately, the cost is R1670 for the quality check, when the car passes the check then they can transfer the MP onto my name.
