I just turned 18yrs, got my code 14 licence with a double diff Nissan CW20 horse and a lowbed trailer with a front-end loader on, I could do better 90 degree reverse maneuvres with a truck and semi-trailer than most people can drive straight!
My dad had a truck dealership, so truck was the way for me!!

learnt on my dad's Ford 20M, and moms 1970 Opel Kadett .
Never owned a car that was good enough to take to the testing centre, until 4 years after school, was driving around unlicenced except for a Motorcycle licence. Yamaha XS 1.1G 1982 model
Then after completing my trade test and earning a bit beter money, bought a Chev 4.1 Commodore, was busy doing 2 years national service at Air Force Base Waterkloof.....drove myself to the Lytelton testing centre, testing officer witnessed me arriving alone, in unifrom, got me to do a parralel parking excercise, a quick drive out of the testing centre into Lytelton for about 5 minutes and then back....done....that was 1985
As he signed of the paperwork he looked at me and warned me that it was illegal to drive alone on a learners licence, but he could see that I had been driving for many years already, and thus didn't doubt my competancy.
