Herr, buddy, i feel you man. With the little one almost here, I shudder to think what the future holds for us.
I remember, just before the FIFA world cup in 2010, things were also getting out of hand. Me, my wife, my sister in law and here husband sat around a table, and we made plans to leave SA. We didn't, and nothing happened, and we're still here.
There's no guarantee that things will get back the way they should. There's also no guarantee that things will fall apart.
The system is at fault here, and the people that can change the system have enough money not to "NEED" to change it. They take what they want, when they want, and get away with it (ex Zumas R200m house revamp go away present).
Sure, everyone needs more money. But 3 times your salary?? Be realistic!! The mining industry will be crippled forever if they give in to their demands. Mines will close, thousands will loose their jobs. The Malemas of this country will buy those mines for next to nothing, re-influence the then desperate miners/job seekers to work for an average wage, and pocket billions again...
Unfortunately, you lead by example. And the majority now think that they can just take what they want (as the examples given to them). There's no turn around for this, UNLESS government can jump in and medeate the situations. People standing to gain from inciting strikes (NUM, COSATU and all other unions (read businesses)) should not be involved in deliberations at all. Government should be the mediator. And government should take the R200m from ZUma's house, and the R5b from the airplanes and the Gazillions they steal and supplement these miner's salaries untill such time as the mines can actually afford them.
But they wont, because that interferes directly with their own pockets.
This country is going to the dogs... Yes, it was built on appartheid, but it was DAMN magnificent in stature. The strongest country on the continent. All the ANC had to do is keep the moral guidlines set by the previous government, and things would've been just fine. It took 350 years to build this country, and now it's been torn down in 15 years...
I'm open for suggestions... :argh:
