Honda Type R | Championship Edition | Enhancement Detail
I have always been a fan of hot hatches - the all-rounder GTI, the tyre shredding OPC and the precise Renault Megane.
Even more so than others I have always been quietly intrigued by the Honda Type R, the futuristic styling and the modern approach and high revving motor.
Naturally, I was extremely excited when the owner of this beautiful Championship Edition booked his car in for an Enhancement Detail.
Having seen the car at our Dyno Day I knew this was a very well, and much loved example of its kind.
My day started with this:
After setting up I set to work using a mixture of Maxi Suds & APC and cleaned the factory fitted white mag wheels both inside and out using various brushes.
I then continued to foam the car down which I left for a few moment to dwell before thoroughly spraying the car down with a high pressure hose.
In my experience with Honda's the clear-coat is extremely soft and any heavy compounds cause more micro-marring and swirling than they remove.
For this reason I decided to use a finishing polish (Chemical Guys No.1 Polish) in conjunction with a Red Finishing Pad giving each panel two very precise passes.
Of course, with a white car the paintwork often picks up dirt, small amounts that we dont even notice. When polishing this is removed and often you end up with two different colours completely as seen in the next picture.
A quick bit of gloss captured mid correction phase:
With the correction complete, I tended to the engine bay cleaning with a light detergent and scrubbing brush before hosing this down from afar followed by rewashing the car to remove excess oils and polish dust.
The final touches are what make a car when detailing, to increase gloss and depth I applied some Chemical guys Revive Glaze followed by a layer of Chemical Guys XXX Hardcore Paste Wax.
The mag wheels were given a rub down with a paint cleaner and coated with two layers of Rim Wax.
All trim, arches and tyres were then dressed to create a strong contrast.
The interior received a thorough clean, with the carpets removed to get rid of some surface stains and to re-fluff the fibres for a more plush look.
Finishing off, the exhaust tips were given a polish and the glass was cleaned with Autoglym Fast Glass.
With the car complete we headed off to do a quick Photoshoot with the car:
The owner was very happy with the results, as was I. Although in an excellent condition to begin with we were able to add that extra bit of magic to this very special car.
So, what do you think of the results?
