It's all relative. So- so on speed, quite decent on petrol. Depends on how you drive mate.

Are you talking about the E30 or E36?? Ether way, go for the 318i. Fuel consumption will be basically the same.

If we talking about the e30 then yes its a good car, i had one, it wasn't the quickest but it wasn't slow either
Fuel consumption was good as well

I'm sure the same applies to e36 as well

I know i know

E46 has better comfort, more safety features, better handling, damn traction control (its good sometimes though), looks (depending on which you prefer)

I had my mind set on an e36 till i drove an e46 and i was hooked

Does the E46's not have less power than the E46? Like 85kw vs 110kw??? I stand to be corrected though.

The E36 318i is great value for money. For the same price as a Tazz u can get a car that is Full house...& is a BMW!!!!!!!!

I'm sure the E36 318is 1.9L made more than 85kw???

I know it was over 100kw. I remember the Car mag stats said 316i top speed was 200 & the 318i was 210. Not too sure about 0-100km/h. If it not sub 7sec, I'm gonna 4get that info:)

One doesn't really buy a 316i/318i for it's awesome power in any case. It more of a practical allrounder everyday car. Newer is always a better option as less things might go wrong if u buy, so E46 might just be a wiser option.

Correct 318is made more power than the 318i

The 318is made 104.4 kW and 175.0 Nm doing 0-100 in 10.20 s

Newer would be nice but go for what ever your budget allows

All depends on what is going to be the main use of the car? Awnser that question and the rest will take care of itself.

Carefull now... you need to distinguish between the e46 pre face lift 318i and the face lift 318i
You are quoting FL stats there with 105Kw.
Pre FL 318i was much lower... somehwere in the 80's

The e36 and e30's (318's and 316's) are pretty "reasonable" on fuel, dependent on how you drive them and ofcoarse if they are kept in good nick!

You cannot however compare their fuel consumption with the general jo-public 1.6ers and 1.8's i.e. toyota,. but I still prefer the bmw, they "move" better compared to vehicles in the same "category"!
