If its not the tracker.....

Then you need to do a current draw on each circuit to determine your issue.

Issue is your car is not going into sleep mode, due to either a faulty module, or a faulty input on a module.

If you have comfort access on the car, it could literally be a door handle... I am not even kidding.

put a current monitor on the car, wait for the car to go into sleep after 10 minutes, if your current draw does not drop, it means your car is not sleeping.

Then check which circuit with the most current draw, and there is your problem...

Excellent place to look for battery drain zaleonardz, makes total sense, but I don't have comfort access.

Update: Checked under the rear seats, took off all the panels inside the boot. I couldn't see any tracker boxes. I really need to get this sorted. Everything in the harness looks original, no aftermarket wires as far as I can tell.

I'm still going to do the recall check, but I have my doubts about that one now. Everything looks absolutely solid around the battery.

Can anyone recommend a BMW specialist - preferably not a dealer - or otherwise just someone who knows the E60 5 series electronics, auto-electrician?

Thanks in advance.

zaleonards, besides not having comfort access it can obviously any other system like you mentioned.

I wanted to ask you. Can I test the current draw with a clamp meter? Or will a multimeter suffice?

Also, where do I do this measurment? The fusebox - across the fuses, or do I need a special tool for this?

Cheers,

Another Update: Warning message gone!

So something strange happened. While looking for the tracker I poked around the battery, checked the wires, touched here pulled there, removed boot carpet and lining, followed wires going here and there.

After not finding anything obvious, I just closed everything up, put the battery on charge. Next morning the battery had a full charge - something I could never achieve before as the battery was discharging while charging it.
I closed the bonnet, got in, started the car - warning message gone !!!???

A day later, same thing - no warning message and no apparent discharging.

But here's the kicker, now my alarm makes no more beeping noise when opening or closing. I also tested the panic alarm by pressing the open boot button for longer than 3 seconds. Nothing. The LED still flashes under the rear-view mirror everything else appears normal when locking there's just nothing audible.

:flyfun:

Could the alarm or some part of it, somehow have been causing the battery drain at the rate that it did?
I'm now more confused than before, but at least there's no more "high rate of discharge" message.

Will carry on investigating and hopefully get to the bottom of the problem.
