High pitched turbo wistle

Just an update, very sad one...

Took the car in for decat yesterday and afterwards the dreaded turbo whine was crystal clear. Seems the turbo is busy going.... all you guys that said it at the start already, my apologies. ChefDJ, you were right. I just hope it's not gonna cost me an arm and a leg to fix though.

Muhammede you are right, the sound is definitely different to the siren sound, but after the decat the siren sound started, and loud too, which leads me to believe the turbo is indeed busy failing.

Does anyone know where in or around pretoria i could get a decent priced replacement? I dont mind if it's a reconned one, as long as it works like it should

Hi Guys. I had the car in to an ex bmw tech this weekend to diagnose the turbo. The whistle turned out to be a blown exhaust gasket between the turbo and manifold. Replaced it and the whistle is gone, sounds perfect at full boost again.

However, ever since the decat I have this whining noise from the turbo side of the car when cold, as soon as the engine heats up it's gone. I have read multitudes of forums, posts and threads regarding this and the majority vote says it's normal after decat. I just want to confirm, is it normal? Should I be worried or not?

The car pulls like a beast again, and the high pitched whistle is gone now, thanks goodness for that.
