High idle

I'm having problems with my e30 has a m42 engine it's idling really high up to 1500 to 2000 rpm when I take off the idle control plug it lowers to about 1100rpm but does shut off and when I reb the engine it chokes and then it idles fine what can it be guys I changed spark plugs, spark plug cables, fuel filter made sure there's no air leaks on the boot or any holes?

Idler control valve is the problem, replace it and your problem should stop.

Go to a scrapyard and ask them to borrow you one to test quickly while there, unplug yours and plug that one in and check.

Had this problem on my E36, 316i motor. Idles high and when you unplug the idler control valve it idles correct but it doesn't want to drive as it chokes the moment you accelerate too much.
