I had the same problem....

Initially it was suspected to be the rear diff bush.. but it actually turned out to be the freaking play in the differential (You could rotate the prop shaft about an inch an a half before the wheels started moving)

If its the rear diff bush - you might consider replacing it soon.

Might be a good idea to get a mech to check it out.

So you saying , that something is wrong with the prop shaft ?

If i leave it do you perhaps know the consequences ?

thank you:thumbs:

Hi There bud

I had a clicking noise when used to take off it would happen in reverse as well (but not every time i put the clutch in).

Sent it to the dealers and they greased a few components and the noise went away.

The noise came back, strange enough though when i changed my rear tyres the noise went away.

Not sure if this is going to help.

Nah - Its not the prop shaft itself, Its the play within the gears in the diff.... (In my case there was nothing other than replacing the diff  so i just drove it, the guys at BMW assured me that it was ok)

I get the same from my 318i but it only happens when i hit the clutch pedal just as the car starts to move. I thought it to be somewhere at the clutch.

Yepp it used to happen at the rear, just out of interest how are your rear tyres? BMW also could not pick up what the problem was on my car. They greased components, changed diff mount bushes.

But only when i put a set of new rear tyres tdid he sound go away.

Tyres at the back are fine like 50 % life .

Akash tell me something , BMW gave me a quote for fixing my engine mountings of 4200 , is that too high or where can i do it for cheaper and a reliable source.

Thanks

BMW will always cost more when it comes to repairs.

I'm you can by the mounting and get someone like Tune Tech (JHB) to replace them for you, if they do need to be replaced in the first place?
