I've been contemplating selling my E36 M3 and moving up to an E46 M3 Coupe for some time now but after going and seeing a few M3's which where claimed to be Immaculate/Excellent condition/Well looked after, we realized that there are many E46 M3's out there in really Bad shape. You can see some people bought them and then couldn't afford to properly maintain them or care of it. This made it very daunting for me as i was trying to find one that was well looked after which i could just maintain and keep as a weekend warrior... I even went and drove Shaun's E46 M3 convertible and i was on the verge of saying yes to it but i really didn't want a vert, i've never wanted to own a convertible but his car was the best option so far, if only it was a coupe but then i eventually said stuff it, i settled for a Z4 M Coupe. I managed to find one with fairly decent km's, neat all round, seems to have had a good life before it came to me.ect
I didn't wait, i grabbed it.
Here it is just after i collected it yesterday afternoon.
What a machine, i've never driven anything like this before, the whole driving experience is just different lol its got the power yes, but you sitting on the floor, i feel like im sitting inside a rocket :roflol:
Now first things first, i plan to do some maintenance just for piece of mind. but i need some help from you guys who have experience with S54's.
Here's what i plan service/replace:
> Oil Filter - will get from BMW
> Fuel Filter - will get from BMW
> air filter - will get from BMW
> Spark Plugs - will get from BMW
> Liqui Moly Racetech GT1 10w60 Engine Oil
> Liqui Moly Gearbox Oil - SAE 75W-90
> Liqui Moly LS Diff Oil - LS SAE 75W-140
> Liqui Moly Ceratec
> Powerflex Engine Mounts
> PowerFlex Gearbox Mounts
> New Prop Shaft Coupling (Guibo)
Is there anything else that i should be looking at doing now one time? Common faults?
I plan to do the Bearings, Valve Clearances/shims and Vanos seals/rattle kit soon. Who do you guys recommend and Roughly how much will it cost? I need to save to get this done, only then will i be at peace.
I also need to replace the clutch soon, are there any good Mechanics/workshops that you guys can recommend? Dont want to go to any dingy workshops and pay over inflated prices.
Thanks for looking
Also BMW say that the Fuel filter is in the tank and doesn't need to be replace??? are they for real?
