Hi.
I drove a 1997 Bmw 328i for almost 5 years, what a dream, you always get avg of around 10km/liter, open road upto 13km/l. I then decided to buy 325iM, man its heavy, in town 6km/liter, open road 11km/liter, and NO, this is taking it easy, if i play a bit it goes down to 5km/liter. WHATS WRONG?

Interesting, my wife's e46 325auto, averages 12.5 per 100km based on the computer. This is in town driving.

Your consumption on a manual box should not be more than 10 even with hard driving, my last 330 manual ran at 10.8 and I have a heavy foot.

its a 2004 Manual, double vanos. I thought to myself it should at least give me 9km / liter in town and around 12.5 - 13km / liter open road. but now its 6km/liter in town, but its got power, over fuel? maybe cats? its got 120 000km on clock..

My car: 2003 325i E46, in town at the moment: 11,7l/100km
When I drive "spiritted": 14,5l/100km
Highway with cruise control set on 125km/h: 6.8-7.2l/100km
Best ever on Highway: 6.2l/100km, coming from White river to Pretoria, cruise control on 110km/h

The pleasure of owning an e36 328i :)

Something don't sound right about your car, my cuz got same car as yours but in auto & gets better consumption.

Get someone experienced to run a diagnostics check on your car.

Also, as aZZ_kIkR stated, maybe get rid of the cats as a starting point.

Have to agree with msm, or they can even reset your computer settings, so that when you drive off your computer will re-calibrate.
I did this to my car in 2007 when I bought her, because the lady who owned it drove it like a 1hp car, never going over 100, and when I got the car it was Sooooo lazy and heavy on juice!! If I remember correctly it was standing on 15.8L/100km. After the main office in Midrand helped me to run full diagnostic, they reset the computer, and the guy told me to drive the car the way I intend to drive, the car was really better.

3 months later I did the chip and well, the rest is history...

I have a supercharged 2.5 litre e46 and I get 10.8 litres per 100km. spirited driving goes to high 11's. LONG spirited driving and I'm in the 12's to 13's... Highway driving see's me back down to 9litres... so something is definitely wrong.

This is a 1999 e46 323 M52TuB25 motor, 2.5 litre. Its got 164 000km on it and runs like a dream.

i'll get is checked and update you all. I think the computer reset is a very good idea, maybe remap..? gonna remove cats as well

Faulty MAF and faulty oxygen sensors can cause heavy fuel consumption, plug the car into diagnostics and see what faults pop up.

Remove the cats.

I found it has a huge effect if they get blocked over the years on the fuel consumption.
