Hi guys, not sure where to post this as its for the Benz but also part of the interior.

How do I make the leather soft again? On the passanger seat the leather has gone a little hard. It's not cracked or damaged but not as soft as it was before.

Any tips?

Much appreciated :)

Its fairly simple but takes time. First brush and vacuum out all the loose dirt. Then clean. This takes alot of time. Use a leather cleaner and a variety of sponges, and mf towels. Spray on cleaner and agitate using sponge or soft brush. Then wipe off using a mf towel soaked in clean water. Squeeze out excess water from towel first. Replace with fresh water after every seat. Allow time for leather to dry up before applying conditioner. You can use dubbin, wynns or any good quality conditioner. Don't use maguires. It leaves a white residue. Massage huge quantities of conditioner into the leather. Don't be shy. I usually empty the whole bottle when I condition. Use your hands, don't use a cloth to apply conditioner. Remember to massage the conditioner into the leather. After you are done leave the car in the sun with windows and doors closed. Leave it in the sun for 4 to 6 hours to let the product soak in. There after buff with a clean dry mf towel. The leather will feel a little oily for about a week and the windows will get some mist but the seats will be soft and nourished. Cleaning will also become much easier. You will just need to wipe with a damp cloth. I do this method on my car every 6 months because the car is always in the sun. The other car stays in the garage. Its been over two years and that leather is still soft. It usually take s me all weekend. One day to clean then one day to condition and give enough time for it to soak in.

Megs doesn't leave a white residue. Maybe if you're using a whole bottle.

Thanks guys!

@ DieselFan@TheFanatics ; I tried everything I could get my hands on , Maguires conditioner, BMW conditioner , , Lyxol conditioner , Mercedes Benz conditioner , Sonex Conditioner , Auto Glym conditioner and now im using Dubben .

@ Waseem 333i Thanks so much! Will try out this process , I was probably doing it all wrong . I have started with the Dubben , Initially I didn't want to use this as I found it to be really oily as we use it on our leather furniture and that shiny look stays for long and I don't like that shiny oily look but if it makes the leather soft again I can figure out how to remove that shiny look. Problem though , is that I cant take the car out in the sun as its in the garage with a reverse problem . So im applying it and leaving it overnight , then the next day I will apply it again and let it soak in . Or should I use a hairdryer on it?

@ Nikhil@TheFanatics thank god , not allergic to bees , I love honey lol

The mercs have really hard leather if it has been baked in the sun then it might not become soft again.

I would try the following put a thick layer of leather polish and leave it for a while and keep repeating the process

The thing is to apply alot of conditioner to soak in. Applying small amounts won't help with the problem you have. The heat opens up the pores in the leather helping to absorb faster. You will need about 200ml to 250ml per seat. It will take a while for the oily finish to go away. The normal methods are for getting results immediately. This method is to restore. Perhaps remove the seat and keep it outside. Hairdryer will take a long time.

Maybe research a product called leatherique. It is known for softening up hardened leather.

I have leatherique. Back when I bought it I paid roughly R900 shipped for the cleaner and conditioner. The difference with it is you condition first then clean. It works very very well but is also expensive especially with the current exchange rate.

I did hear about it , also read about the product , I hear its really really one of the best out there , but the cost and shipping , ( I think the shipping was costing more then the product at one point) and then the wait and procedure to get it . Everything held me back . And now with the current exchange rate :(

The good thing though , its not all the seats thats hard , Its just the one front passenger seats that has one or two panels that have gone hard , the other seats are fine , not super soft but they are ok .

Im really afraid if it being hard as its one of the outer edge pieces that I know will crack or tear if I dont get it soft again.

Thoese seats look really nice! Product looks like its working really well . Been a while since Iv seen a blue leather E30 interior!

It was effortless ordering from leatherique. I had an email chat with them in the evening. Made the payment. Had the product delivered to our post office. Was here within a couple weeks. Paid less than R30 customs. Just use alot of conditioner. Let it absorb then keep applying until it's gone soft.
