Handling problems after changing rear tyres

Hi guys,

Need some assistance please....

After changing the rear tryes on a E39 M5, the car now handles badly...oversteers and feel body roll.

The tyres are the same as the old, Dunlop Sp Sport 275/35/18 run flats. The car has been to BMW, they have done the wheel alignment and checked the suspension, everything is ok.

A tech from BM however said they having same problems with other clients changing just the rear tyres when running offset. A 335 was one, the client changed the front two and the car rides fine. Is this true? Is there anything else that could cos the problem?

How many kms are on the new tyres? Maybe pull one nice long eleven, and get the rubber more tacky.

Just under 1000kms....care actually feels dangerous to drive around bends...

Elevan sounds good...just waiting for them to wear in a bit...done it before with new tyres, chucks came off the tyre.:bawling:

Maybe the E39 is not happy running on run flats? Just my 2c.... :dunno:

BTW welcome to the forum!

Tyre batches are not always the same. Had som troubles with Pirelli P6000's on the rear, but on the front they worked fine.

Oh, and Dunlop: Dan Lop hy hier en Dan Lop hy daar. I'm not convinced about the roadholding of some Dunlops, but thats just an opoinion... :mmm:

lol...hope not when going around a bend...

I had them on the car before, the car went around bends like on rails...no hassles with them at all. they excellent and well rated. These are made in germany.

I cant rotate as the rears are 275 and front are 245!

Thanks, the car always had runflats from the time i got it.

If I were you, I would go directly to Dunlop and tell them that you loved the tyres previously, but these ones are kak. They will more than likely swap them out for you.

A mate of mine got a bubble on the sidewall of one of the 4 new dunlops that he bought in 18", and Dunlop here in Epping swapped all 4 out.

Neither Yokohama or Pirelli wanted to swap out for bubbles on the sidewall for tyres which had less that 1000km on them. Never bought those brands again anyhow...

I used to have Dunlop SP *000 Sport's on my car, they were horrible things. Was a day and night difference when I changed to teh Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymetrical's

I'm with FR on this one... been running Conti Sport 2's and 3's on the 328, and not 1 issue! Brilliant handling in wet or dry... they do wear out quite quickly though.... :bawling:

had it in at mintys , think i should take it to TWT

i have CS2 in the front and CS3 in the rear , front didnt need replacing so i didnt change it...

im just wondering if there is a slight thread pattern difference that could be causing that feeling im getting?

correct me if I'm wrong, but don't Conti have a differently coded tyre for specific manufacturers? As far as I know, the BMW code is "M0". perhaps you have Conti's for the wrong manufacturer?
