According to our British sources, BMW is planning to launch two new coupes in the following years. Named the 2 Series and the 4 Series, the two new models will be the coupe versions of BMW's 1 Series and 3 Series, respectively. Both, the BMW 2 Series and the 4 Series will be sold as coupes, but they will also have convertible versions. This rebadging of the two models is not a new idea at BMW. Several years ago, the German car manufacturer thought of naming the coupe version of the 3 Series as the BMW 4 Series. This plan however, was abandoned at the last minute.

BMW is expected to launch the 2 Series coupe in early 2013, with the convertible version, which will probably have a soft-top canvas roof, in the summer of 2014. The BMW 4 Series coupe will come
on the market in the middle of 2013, with the convertible version coming the following spring. A fifth model is also expected to come in the spring of 2015. Also named BMW 4 Series, it will be a 4-door coupe model.

In terms of engines and transmissions, BMW's 2 Series and 4 Series are expected to offer the same choices as they're base models.

I personally don't know for what market they are going for.

Any ideas?

car looks more like a crossover and is definitly not a coupe.
correct me if i am wrong, but a coupe by definition can not be a 4 door...?
think the story is telling lies.

Damn that's ugly. Looks like an 18 year old girl wanted the luxury of a wagon, the rims of a mini but to make it look cute and small she ran it into a wall

Agreed! it wont be the first time though that a car company is calling a four door a coupe.I get the concept of de-badging the coupes and personally i dont think its a bad idea since it gives the car a whole new personality. But if theres any truth in that design of the 2 series,i dont see who the target market is and i definitely dont see it being a success.lets hope its just some bored dude with photoshop and spare time :biglol:

Nah don't know where that guy got his ideas from haha.

The current 1 coupe will be the 2 series.. that picture you see above is most likely the much rumoured 1 or 3 series "GT" - or even likely the next gen X1 ..definitely falls in line with the "GT" look though :D Without a doubt the ugliest Beemer around now is the 5 series GT IMO.

But the info about the "rebadging" has pretty much been confirmed by some reliable sources.

Looks better than the new 1 series... :fencelook:

I am with you on that! Would have to see more pics from different angles, but for me there is something agreeable about the overall look that I can't say the same for the new 1 Series. Coupé technically it is not, but there have been a few cars marketed in the past as a Coupé model with four doors - the idea being that the B-pillar is blacked out and as such appears to give the car a Coupé appearance. The rear "suicide" doors (I think that's what they are often referred to as) looks a bit odd too.

But anyway, I think this is more appealing to those who would look at something like the Cross Polo or even now Audi has a Q3 on the way...

But getting back to the basic look of this car, I like the front end - maybe the "chunkiness" makes up for the strange new kidney/headlight design style...

In 2005 the story broke that BMW will name their coupe variants with even numbers and the garden variety models with odd numbers. Nothing materialized since so this is just a re hash of a previous myth.

Yeah but it's been basically confirmed now on international boards.. at least the "2" series variant which I have heard of
