Gun Talk - legalities

Some random flapping on the Glock.

On the Glock, I also did a lot of research at the time, and for self defense research suggested that the Glock 19 subcompact 9mm is the perfect choice.

I did some target shooting with a friends and it really is a nice weapon and easy to carry.

However, I then got offered a Glock 23 for an insane price, its also a sub-compact but it has a 40 cal, and yea i carry 40 cal hollows. Same as the glock 19/17 only issue recoil is a bit more harsh,

I am slighly more accurate with the 17 due to the recoil on repeat shots at the targets in kind of a "rapid unload mag" kind of way, as the recoil on the 40 does bounce a bit more.

However I fully agree with what has been said above, you want as large as possible cal for self defense.

You do not pull a weapon unless you intent to use it, you do not fire unless you intent to kill, so in self defense, If you cannot get it done in 2 or 3 shots, your pretty much done anyway,

In self defense, it does not matter if you shoot with a .22, 9mm or a 50 cal, if you draw that weapon, your subject to the same laws, if you fire with that weapon, your subject to the same laws, if you kill with any of those weapons, even if you wound, your subject to the same laws.

Remember that dead men tell no tales....

THe only drawback on the 40 cal is that the ammo is slightly more expensive, so if you want to go do some range shooting, its gonna cost you more.

However... I am not sure if this is legal or not, but on the Glock 23, which is of course the 40 cal, you can actually get a 9mm barrel, and you can then shoot normal 9mm with it, Cost for that additional barrel I have heard is about 1.5k, so then you have both worlds,

I do not know what the law says above the above for forensics, so I am not condoning the above, but thats how it is.

Regarding the Glock safety, first rule of gun safety, keep your finger off of the trigger, second rule of gun safety, KEEP YOUR FSCKING FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER....

I will never carry one up, simply because I have a small child in the house, my gun is either on me or in the safe and you will never find it laying around, ever, but you never know, my car keys with safe keys lay around though so...,

I also carry a material holster and not the hard plasticy ones, as it wears easier for concealed carry, so while it is virtually impossible for something to push the micro trigger and the trigger, you can never be too cautious.

Glock 23 Gen 4 here too, the accessories and parts availability of glock products in this country blew the competition out to the water, I use a holster called a "sticky" and it sticks to skin very nicely for concealed carry. I also have the military grade slide on tactical torch and some of those "bang sticks" mags that carry 22 rounds, tritium sight upgrade in future and perhaps one of these as it has picatinny rails so all my paintball attachments will work too.

With the Glock not having a "proper safety" on the weapon I never carry it with a round in the chamber.

That is a personal decision, just remember you've already at a disadvantage if you need to 'hollywood' ie cycle a round into the chamber when confronted with a situation.

I've carried a 27 for 14 years ....always '1 up'. My previous firearm was a Colt 45 and the safety was often off at the end of the day.

You cannot go wrong with a Glock, good choice. Cheers

Ash don't waste money on a 9mm. You want .40cal or bigger as most fire fights are over in 3-4 shots and stopping power is key, 9mm will only aggravate the guy and he will be back with more muscle/firepower. 40cal or bigger will stop/drop the perp in the first shot, 9mm won't.
I have to disagree with you there. For a non avid shooter the 9mm is perfect, less recoil etc. There is stopping power with the 9mm rounds with the correct ammo and shot placement it's deadly.

Also use a Sticky everyday, best holster I own. Only problem is to re-holster, but it's not done often so it isn't a big issue.

For the range I've got a Forbus or Uncle Mike's OWBs. But I'm looking at a custom Geoff Carter Kydex. Anyone have one of these?

Glock certainly the sexier looking gun and has more street cred etc lol if that matters to you. Would have possibly been my first choice had I not had a 1 year old running around touching and pressing anything and everything...

Eff Off.
I have found that keeping a sjambok in the car and showing it to would be window washers works wonders, hehehe.

A less confrontational way to deal with the traffic light traffickers is to stop a good distance length behind the car in front. When the guy walks up to sell his goods and/or services, you close the gap. They get the message every time.

Besides, their times is precious. They only have a short window of opportunity to make a fast buck before the light changes. Turning around to hustle/hassle a guy who has already shown a distinct lack of respect for what is on offer just wastes time that is already ticking away.
