Gran Turismo 5 Challenge Thread

I must say that I am envious of the XBOX boys doing their thing on Forza, so I was compelled to create a GT5 thread for the PS3 fanatics

Borrowing from our cross console counterparts, the rules are simple, the winner of the weekly challenge sets the parameters for the next week's challange, and so on. You pick the cars, the track, and the mods :bravo:

Every challenge will run Thursday to Wednesday. All entries must be posted on this thread with a simple picture of your best lap time with the chosen car, by Wednesday evening. The winner is announced on Thursday, with the winner choosing the next challenge by 17h00 Thursday evening.

To set a distinction between the different types of players, you must post whether your track time was achieved by using a dual shock control, or by means of gaming steering wheel. There will be a log for steering wheel racers, and one for dual shock racers :joy: each discipline getting to choose the challenge going forward.

Enjoy, play with good spirit and sportsmanship, and may the games begin :bravo:

Challenge One:

Just to get the ball rolling:

Track: Tsukuba
Car: Amuse S2000 GT1 Turbo
Max Mods: (note that you can mod up to and including the below specs)
Titanium exhaust
Fully customisable transmission
Fully customisable LSD
Fully customisable suspension
Brake balance controller
ANY TYRES

ANY driver assist is allowed EXCLUDING racing line

BOTH manual and automatic transmission is allowed

NO RED LAP TIMES WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR ENTRY

So we have a quick rwd car with max mods allowed, will be interesting to see what the times look like and the setups

I went for this spec to allow everyone to enter with a confidence boost

Post your times with a mod-list should you choose :evilish:

Good luck!!!

Dual Shock 3 Leaderboard:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

Steering Wheel Leaderboard:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

Noticed you're shifting automatically, don't you feel like you have less control?

Lol i just dislike excessive controller inputs, so I race AT  I am used to it now, after playing all GTs to date with AT lol

Haha, interesting. Also, why can't we just race stock cars from the Arcade Menu? Because now I would have to go out and buy the S2000 and purchase LSDs, modified trannies etc. I've spent almost all my money on filling up my garage with BMWs.

Lololol sorry bro, it isn't that much to buy and mod it though:thumbs:

And this car is a beast and tsukuba is a very deceptive track lol

Okay, so I did a practice lap with the Amuse S2000 and did a 53.995

- Set Up
Tuning: Completely Stock
Tyres: Racing Soft
Traction Control: Off
Skid Recovery Force: Off
Active Steering: Off
ASM: Off
ABS: 1

Found that the car understeered quite badly, found my self having to turn hard while braking to kick the tail out so I could oversteer out of the tight corners.

I still think we should race stock cars with subjective driver aids (apart from the driving line) so that it becomes more about who's the best driver as opposed to who's the best driver/tuner (a bit like what the xbox guys are doing).

Proposed first race: Lotus Elise 111R '04 (stock). track: The Top Gear Test Track.

Let's up the ante in terms of vehicle class as we go along, just to keep us interested - the Amuse is a full-blown track car.

Let me know what you think!

Your suggestion has been noted boet

The reason why i have chosen Tsukuba and this car in particular up to a full mods package is that you don't necessarily require a full mods pack to churn out the best times... That being said, the only power performance mod is the exhaust, the rest is for setup, like lsd, gearing and suspension.

Open mods on challenge one i feel are better, gives everyone a chance to push their own car, in a way that they're comfortable with - once the winners are established, that's when the fun starts in terms of tuning blends, car types, etc

So i think let's maintain this challenge, and push to the max :joy:

Count me in for this

A couple of questions:

-can we leave the 'academy edition' cars (2012 GT-R, Redbull etc) out of it? Not everyone has them.

-And then with regard to challenges, instead of saying what you can and cant do on a car, how about just setting a maximum limit on PP.

Example:

*Trial Mountain
*Bmw M5
*550PP max
*Choice of tires

That way the guys can run cars according to the rules, but built for their own personal driving style.
