G Shift Product Review: Hose Guides by The Detail Guardz

Hi all,

I thought I would post a short review of this product as well, as so far I have used them myself on a couple of car washes, and my jack-of-all-trades household assistant also made use of them when the X3 was washed this past weekend.

The Hose Guides by The Detail Guardz are exactly that. They are compact devices which wedge between your tyre and the ground, and have guide rollers on the outer perimeter which help to guide the hose pipe / pressure hose / air hose / any hose around a vehicle, and prevent the hose from getting trapped or wedged between the tyre and the ground, particularly when walking around the vehicle.

They are easy to use, simply press to wedge them securely, and there are little protrusions on the hose guide itself which help to grip the tyre tread and secure it in place. The roller assembly is split into 2 pieces, and moves freely, when loose, or when wedged in place. The upper edge of the hose guide is also tapered, to allow the hose to slip down onto the roller assembly if need be.

Personally, this is always an irritation for me when washing the cars. If I look towards my driveway from the street, my tap is in the top left corner. So connecting the hose pipe there and then pulling it round the car parked on the left is not too bad (the hose does still get wedged), but it's even more of a pain when trying to wash the car parked on the RHS of the driveway.

The ideal would be to have the hoses suspended above the cars, but that is not practical at this point in time. In the handful of times I've used this product now, the hose has moved freely, and there is no need to walk up and down to free up the hose which has now decided to hook under one or other tyre somewhere out of sight.

I'll be sure to continue to note how these work going forward, but for now, I am impressed. When my assistant was washing the car on the weekend, I put the hose guides in place and told him to continue as normal, not making any concerted effort to free up the hose pipe or walk in a wide berth around each car. His feedback after the wash was that he also noticed an immediate difference, no wedging of the hose pipe, and it almost made it easier to maneuver the hose pipe when it came to rinsing the car off again.
