As much as its the responsibility of the petrol attended to take note and not make msitakes like this, I am a firm believer that you as owner/driver share the same amount of responsibility.

When I was a teenager my dad will tell the guy/lady to fill LRP & ask he/she do they know which one ??? they say "yes sir you want lead replacement" & next thing you see they holding an unleaded pump

Call me paranoid but I ALWAYS stand with them to see what they fill & how much, even with tyre pressure. My Jetta got an airlock & most attendants will lock the pump trigger while filling up without realising petrol will shoot out when its full :cursin:

As for oil & water, I check that myself & NEVER let the attendant touch the engine. Even if they ask, I politely tell them "no thanks".

Now this is one small area where I applaud Americans. Get off your lazy ass, and fill your own car. Or at least get out and look at what they are doing.

BTW - I have personally seen where one of a fleet of brand new Ford Focus TDCis were accidentally filled with petrol and it ran 8 km on the highway before starting with hiccups. Thereafter the tank was drained and refilled with diesel and the car has been running perfectly since. Now I believe that is also partly because the car wasn’t driven by a moron into the ground until it couldn’t go one further inch, since it was immediately stopped when it just started jerking/losing power
