Hey Everyone,

Picked up my first BMW today.

2018 320d

Car feels so much different to my previous vehicles... I get why people love them so much...

What previous vehicles did you have?

Started of with a Ford Laser back in 2007, then to
--> Golf MK2
--> Jetta 3
--> Citi 2.0 8v
--> Citi 1.6
--> Seat Cupra TDi
--> Polo Vivo
--> Golf 7.5 TSi
--> Ford Ranger 2.0 10 speed XLT

and now the 320D

Great choice.

If you travel long distance, or to dodgy areas, then invest in a space saver spare wheel.
The lack of a spare wheel is the only major issue I have with the F30.
I am only mentioning this because I see that your other cars would have come with spare wheels.

Congrats on the new car and welcome to the forum and BMW drivers club! I must say your previous cars all look like good choices also!

I was actually considering that as i do long distances from time to time when we go away for a bit of a holiday. Although my office is 2.1km away from my house so its not too bad for my day to day commute.

I was a bit of a VW fan all the time but from the moment i test drove this 320d i was hooked on it. Will still like to build a 2 door golf 1 in my garage at some point lol

A consistent short distance like that from cold start isn't ideal for a diesel engine. I'm not technically inclined so others are more qualified to comment, but this kind of daily use could reduce the life of your DPF and also not good for the engine, since oil won't get up to operating temp and flow around the engine in such a short distance.

I also live close to my office and I drive an extra long route through the 'burbs to make sure my engine oil gets up to temp before I park again at the office. And that's in a petrol fuelled Golf.

Congrats on the new car. They look great in that colour too.

I read up about this and i saw that people recommend doing a free way run every now and again to help. So i thought it may not be too much of an issue as the wife and i do particular drive every weekend which is about a 70km round trip of which about 60km is on freeways.

Maybe some body can advise further...
