Thought I'd wake this section up a bit :)

I recently managed to replace my gaming rig, which was really starting to show its age.

The Old Machine
-Intel i7 2600k (OC'd to 4.5GHz)
-ASUS P8P67 Deluxe
-EVGA GTX980 SC
-G.Skill Sniper DDR3 16GB (2x8GB) 1866MHz
-Cooler Master Hyper 812
-Samsung 850 EVO SSD (OS Drive)
-Thermaltake Chaser II
-Cooler Master GX750

The New Machine
-AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
-ASRock X570 Taichi
-XFX RX 6800XT Speedster Merc 319
-G.Skill Trident.Z DDR4 32GB (2x16GB) 3600CL16 (OC'd to 3800MHz)
-Phanteks PH-TC14PE
-Sabrent Rocket 500GB PCIe4.0 NVMe (OS Drive)
-Phanteks Evolve X (Satin Black)
-Super Flower Leadex III 850W +Gold
--Much RGB

All to power a 55" Samsung QLED (Q6F) (1080p @ 120Hz; 1440p @ 120Hz; 4K @ 60Hz)

Pretty lucky to get hold of a CPU and GPU in this crazy time of lack of supply!

Also first time using anything AMD :smilebounce:

I'm so glad to see this.... Was low key expecting someone with a downpipe and a carbon spoiler as that's considered a 'build' these days!

Ps your rig is awesome ?

That's an awesome setup, what kind of games do you play?(Adventure, Simulation etc)?

Very nice! It is quite a good time to do this with all the competition and SA seemingly unaffected by the supply shortages. Truth be told, I was an intel fanboy for many many years, but AMD made it impossible NOT to choose them if you're building right now.

Also just did a build (GPU still left) - Not as serious as yours though! 5600X and X570 Tomahawk.... also running 2x16GB DDR4 DIMMs at CL16 - will play with the secondary timings when I drop in the GPU. I thought I would swap chips when the pricing on the 5900X drops or used deals start coming up but we will see if I need to (or want to). Excuse the 'vintage GPU' LMFAO - I've just used it for setup. Playing with colours as well but 99% of the time I have all the RGB off... that is for the build my son has now inherited which is in an 011 Dynamic.

I am torn between throwing all my principles out the window and getting a 6800XT as well or going 3080 LMFAO. It looks so good in your pic!

Awesome. What made you choose the 6800XT vs 3080 and where the hell did you find stock?

It was a very tricky choice, by no means clean cut. I agonised over it actually. Each brand offering their own pros and cons.

In the end it came to:
-RDNA2 scaled down, in terms of resolution, better than Nvidia 3000 Series (I willl run 1440p@120 for fast-paced games and 4K@60 for eye candy, slow-paced titles)
-More VRAM on AMD (Future Proofing for 4K)
-I don't really care for Ray Tracing (Visual benefit is not worth the performance cost for me at this stage)
-DLSS 2.0 titles are basically non-existent at this point
-Zero Nvidia availability
-The 6800XT edges the 3080 in rasterisation performance and is actually quite a bit cheaper
-I've always been and Nvidia and Intel fan, but their business practices have started to annoy me. So I thought I'd throw their competitor(s) a bone :)

I bought the other components in anticipation and then I just researched the release times (for the CPU and GPU) and camped Wootware. Got both items within 2 days of international launch :)

Thanks man! Also a nice build you have there - nothing to scoff at, that's for sure!

Your son is also fortunate to have a dad enjoying this past-time with him. Very cool indeed!

Yea, blind brand allegiance is just not in one's best interests. Objectivity needs to be applied - Both Nvidia and Intel have had a proper scare courtesy of AMD. In the end, it's good for us consumers.

@Spanky the build looks mad and I'm sure it performs even better!!

I'm currently running the following in mine but I'm itching to get either a 3060ti or 3070 (preference is mainly because the performance on Nvidia drivers is better than AMD).

Ryzen 3600
Corsair 16GB 3200mhz
Asus X470-F
Gtx 1070

Thanks man.

Nice setup dude! Looks clean! Very clean. I like clean setups. Wires irritate me big time and I see you have run Conduit for the wires under the desk like myself! Very nice man.
I still need to go buy allot of conduit but it doesn't really work with a Z4 lol so I need to see if I can have it delivered lol.

Shot Nick, yes I also hate the exposed cables so I used a glue gun and cut up some Trunking to 10cm lengths and stuck it under the desk to run all the cables in so they don’t hang under the desk and look ugly.

Must've been tough to let such a beast go! Crazy CPU! Very good looking build as well.

Thanks man! It does perform like a monster. Fortunately no driver issues yet - We'll see how this whole AMD thing pans out :)

Dig your case and the fans. Looks great!

@"osiris"
What a mad setup. Not messing around with a 3090! I love how clean and neat your space is. The lighting is a nice touch too. Bravo!

@"johndoe"
Stunning build and a great man-cave/gaming room you've got there. Very cool!
