Finally got a Beemer - 320D E90

Hey all,

So I've been on the forum for a few months now, been wanting to get a BMW for a while - I was originally looking at an E90 and then decided to rather go for an F30 but was struggling to find what I felt was a good deal and finding a 320D is quite tricky compared to the petrol variants.

I then stumbled upon a 2010 E90 320D and managed to get it for what I felt was a good price, so decided to go for it as I was getting tired of not having a car as I sold my Audi last year and have been on the bike since.
So it is a 2010 320D Exclusive A/T, has a sunroof and bi-xenon lights. No bluetooth but has rear PDC.

I picked her up on Friday and have been enjoying her since - she has a full service history and is currently at my mechanic for her next service so I should get her back later today. She is currently 100% stock as well with 152 000KM on the clock now.
I haven't had a chance to take any pictures yet as it has been raining quite a bit in JHB and I've been a bit busy as well.

I am looking at doing the following mods to her:

LED lights to make the angel eyes white - I really dislike the yellow
Downpipe to remove the DPF
Madness Motorsport Software
xHP Gearbox software

She drives well, not sure I like the runflats, I may consider switching over to non RFT's later on.
The power steering took a while to get use to as it's hydraulic I believe and not electric and therefore a bit more effort than using 1 finger to turn the steering while the car is stationary but I have since become accustomed to it.

I will take and post some pictures once I pick her up after the service, decided to at least get this thread going as it's a bit overdue already.

Got my car back from the service, had her checked out as well and all is good.
So new filters all around along with new oil, even a new fuel filter.
As mentioned, it is the exclusive model and not the M Sport.

Quickly took some pics, not very good ones but was in a bit of a hurry.

There are still a few things I am not 100% sure about, such as inside the car the middle vents there is a scroll wheel below the vents such as the one I got online below:

Anyone know what this does?

Also I see that there are two options for recirculating the air inside the car, I believe the first light is auto mode and there is an air quality sensor and if the quality of the air is poor it is meant to auto-circulate the air within the car.
Does this sensor need to be replaced at some point? Does it take a bit of time for this to work? I have driven through some smelly areas and it has not helped, such as an area at night where people have a fire going and you can smell the smoke.

Also my car has bi-xenon's, 2 days after I took delivery I got a check notification about the lights and I see the inner 2 are not working - I assume these are meant to be the bright as well as the outer two? Is this correct?
During the lockdown I will take a look as to what type of bulb it is and try swap it around to make sure the ballast still works and see what I need to purchase to have that fixed.

Also the DTC button, I believe it is traction control of sorts. If I press it a few times on my dash console the DTC light comes on - does this mean the traction control is now off? If so how do I turn it back on without having to turn the car off and on again?

Bet you can't wait for the lockdown to be over to be able to take out for a proper spin.
Congrats!

Hi bud, as far as I know there are 2 levels of traction control on the E90.
The first is when you only press the DCT button once which will disable traction control but still has stability control active which prevents excessive sideways movement.

If you hold the DCT button a bit longer, it will turn everything off and you will be left to your own devices. I dont normally take this route as you have to be ready for it to snap out once the boost hits.

Level 1 is enough slip if you want to hoon but you dont want it to intervene too much

Ahh alright, good to know.
Is the only way to turn it back on to turn the car off then on again?

Congrats, the E90 looks awesome in white and the facelift bonnet with the creases in looks fantastic - have always liked that. Enjoy
