Finally back in the Bimmer fold

After a long while in the automotive wilderness, driving "sensible" cars that left me empty I finally settled back in with this new to me e92 325i (I think post-LCI). Perfect service history and very very tidy all round (obviously not perfect, but very pleased).

Obvious niggles are the usual - condensation in the headlight (will try the hairdryer trick this weekend) and a stuck cupholder (cannot DIY it as unfortunately someone had removed the spring to make it stay in so I need to source a good secondhand on as BMW want R1.5k for one...).

For now I am just enjoying the ride. Had it on Helshoogte Pass this weekend and really impressed with the auto in Sport mode - probably because the transmission was serviced when I bought it. Not so much power that I'll off myself, but plenty of fun around the twisty stuff.

When I have some money I'll look for nicer wheels. These are not quite to my taste. I also need to get a better solution for music as the USB-c to aux cable is driving me nuts. I don't want to put in a garish aftermarket android unit as the OEM one has Bluetooth for calls and I like the understated look.

Anyways, so far so good. Let's hope it treats me well!

So I've already tackled a few small DIYs.

The previous owner was a smoker and the roofliner was pretty grim in places. Some good old foamed up genesis carpet cleaner with a microfiber and light agitation made a massive difference. Not perfect yet, but the most obvious dirt and staining is gone so I'll tackle the whole thing eventually.

Then I had to address the condensated headlight. Gained access from the top hatch and stuck my wife's hairdryer in there at a cool setting (too scared of melting or warping something although heat would have helped even more) for about an hour and again, not perfect but flip it's way better.

Next remains a bit of a headlight refurb (not going the whole 4 step route as it's not that bad) and then the cupholder, but finding a working secondhand one is proving a mission.

Thanks FISAACS. Does that dongle then still allow you to use the car bluetooth for calls without duplicating the input (I.e. echo)? My phone can be set to have numerous Bluetooth connections with one then being the BMW for calls and this one for audio only I suppose?

Yes it does, the calls are set to your car's bluetooth whilst the audio is set to the dongle. I take it that you have the usb as well as aux inputs?

Yebo, so this should work then thanks.

The aux cabke is such a pain - just randomly mutes my music so this will be a great option.

Yes it works seamlessly, when you receive/make calls the audio pauses and resumes when the call ends. It intergrates well with standard audio system.
Enjoy it bro

Thanks. Just no clue how to get it here. Amazon SA doesn't hold it. I'll keep an eye out for it.

I have the OEM BMW Y-cable lying around somewhere if you would want to try it out? Not sure if it will work any better than the other options / suggestions.

How’s the fuel consumption looking like?
It's ok. I drive peak hour traffic from Paarl to Cape Town three times a week and in the stop-go and inner city parts It's bad but once open road hits it's really good cruising at 130kph. My first tank of petrol averaged 10kpl but on open roads it's at 12'ish.
