Right...

So the day was fast approaching...

On Saterday I thought I would spend just a few hours giving the car a once over, you know the final touches....that shouldn't take all day?

Well it did....8 hours  I was now skating thin, really thin on the wifes patience scale.

Fast foward to Sunday...

It was an early start, 04:30am I couldn't really get much sleep, you know that nervous feeling in your tummy?...

The plan was for Clinton to meet at my place at 06:45 and take a cautious drive to Mandela Square...

A cautious drive to the square it was...with the amount of construction and water leaks, I was literally down to 5km p/h just to aviod any sling of mud etc.

We arrived at the square at 07:15..and we were not the first cars there

The guys has already started cleaning up their cars, its always amazing to see the amount of effort and commitent that these guys put in.

It was out with my touch up kit... Nathan got us some coffee and the touch ups began...

The judging process on my car...

Lets just say, there were no "stones" left un turned. The judges where extremely detailed, checking from all nooks and crannies to behind the rear plates / rear number plates / rubbers / rubbibg there hands on all 4 arches / to lug wheel holes / sunroof rubbers and rails / dismister vents on both the front and rear / underneath the bumpers / to bonnets hinges etc...you get the picture?

What surprized me was the inconsistently of juding, some cars in my class took less than 5 mins? and looked like a simple walk through

Here are the judges marking me...

My score....

I entered the D'Etat - 100% original class

The competition was really strong, some really nice and well prep cars...guess what?

I wasn't even placed, I scored 83 points out of a possible 90, the 5 points loss was for reasons beyond my control

-3 points - as my car is under a 100 000km, Im currently on 72 000km
-3 points - as my car is under 10 years old, My car is 7 years old
-1 point - for a finger smugde on the inside of the windscreen, I simply missed that...

So I would have scored 89 out of a possible 90...

Speaking to the winners of my class, the one guy spend 3 days cleaning his car and the other just returned from a car wash prior to the event, in all fairness, there did score well on the area's I failed!

I was really disappointed after the effort and time put in....Oh well, better luck next time

Most judges commened me on the "best" prep car they have seen in long time...but!

Was also nice meeting some of the forum members i.e. Kido etc

Thanks...

Nathan / Clinton, thanks for all the help in the last 4 weeks or so, I know we spend hours in the baking sun getting the car preped. Your efforts and help is really apperciated...

Neil / Pravin..Thanks for all the help on the products etc, much apperciated.

Forum members...thanks for all the supports guys and gals...

Wow, there were something of everything! Thanks for the pics Rowen and sorry you didn't make it. Can't they create a class for sub 100k cars then? :cursin:

Sad to hear Rowen. Unfortunately having a newer, lower mileage car meant you would always be trailing on points before you even started. IMHO, and having only taken a brief stroll through the parked cars, yours was pretty much the best prepared car on the day. How that scales to other older cars in the judging process is unknown, but better luck next time ;)

A little bit of Trivia - no RHD 2002 ti's were ever built. This is a very nice 2002 with side-drafts and ti badging.

Correction guys, this E36 M3 did not take any positions at the concours. It belongs to a mate whom was equally dissapointed with the judging criteria.

Aaah, correct indeed! I stand to be corrected, but as far as I know this car won its class. Talk about points for originality..
