Hi guys,

They busy installing fibre in my road and need to find an ISP. Any killer deals going at the moment? Doesn't have to be too hectic, as long as I can stream (Showmax or Netflix etc)

Any suggestions?

Webafrica and Vox Telecom offer competitive rates for their FTTH services, plus the Data Caps are massive as well. On rand/GB basis, they are simply the best, i am sure either one of them will be able to sort you out... Vox is currently doubling its data cap on non-Telkom networks, hopefully it is the Vumatel that is trenching in your area, then you can take advantage of these deals :coolShake:

They are both available (Showmax is a local product as far as I know). It is possible to get Netflix but you gotta jump through a few hoops to get it...

Greenstone - Edenvale, but we dont even have a damm Telkom line there yet never mind Fiber. These guys in UK have it good but they complain that the rest of Europe are hitting 300mbs

It depends who is laying the laying the fibre. Some providers (MTN for example) are implementing closed fibre rollouts, which means you HAVE to the use them as your ISP, and they want you to sign a 2 year contract at idiotic rates (MTN again.) That said, a colleague is in Craghall Park and I believe the fibre there is open.

Have you confirmed that your residence will be getting fibre? The providers won't give complexes fibre infrastructure if they don't have a certain percentage of the residents sign-up.

For streaming purposes, 10mbps will suffice if that's all you do with the connection. But if you throw 2 kids into the mix with gaming and youtube, I'd suggest you go 50mbps.

Hi Mark_F, the fibre provider is Vumatel. My residence is definitely getting it, they have installed it already outside my house - they just finishing off the end of the road. Think I'm gonna try start with 20mbps, it'll just be for streaming for now...

But 50 mb is better
Not for streaming, no. 7meg is required for HD streaming on Netflix. Unless you want 3D then you'll need 12meg+.

Unless you're running multiple streams 10meg is fine.
