But 50 mb is better
Not for streaming, no. 7meg is required for HD streaming on Netflix. Unless you want 3D then you'll need 12meg+.

Unless you're running multiple streams 10meg is fine.

But 50mb is still better. Faster is always better

Please I'm dying to know how faster is better for streaming netflix if the only bandwidth I'm using is for Netflix and browsing. Dying to know.

A 5 series coupled with the same optional comfort seats as a 7 series, even though equal in comfort to said 7 series, will still be inferior to the 7 series.

More is always better :chef:

Vumatel's pricing is hidden inside their portal, but this gives you an idea of which ISPs operate on which infrastructure and the packages they offer : http://mybroadband.co.za/news/broadband/121196-best-and-worst-fibre-to-the-home-prices-in-sa.html

20mbps uncapped from Cybersmart for R899 per month looks quite decent based on how you've indicated you'll use the conncection.

FWIW, I'm paying ISPAfrika R999 for 20mbps uncapped on Telkom's infrastructure.

That price list is old man, i can assure you that the likes of Webafrica have already adjusted their prices by now, and are in fact offering even bigger data caps +1000GB after hours.

Oops, sorry. Yes it's from 2015. I just saw "March" in the date and assumed it's current. :sorry:

Still can't find Vumatel fiber pricing anywhere.

Where are you based. We have 50mbps uncapped and unshaped fibre from Cool Ideas for R999/month.

This is not bad AT all...

Im unfortunately in an estate, Eagle Canyon that has fibre, but its controlled by vodacom and therefore vodacom is the only option.

R800pm gets me 20mb fibre line with 50gb cap. Cheap to get another 50gb cap but still... they dont offer an uncapped option

Good day everyone

I'm looking at getting Fibre and would appreciate members' views on which Fibre provider they're using and their experiences (speed, service, stability, reliability, value for money).

I'm currently with Afrihost on an LTE product, and have not had any issues thus far. Speeds are good and service is quick (was chatting with them on whatsapp about an issue early on a Sunday morning! And they helped!).

I'm based in Morningside Manor, where Openserve has installed the Fibre lines in my estate.

My options at the moment are therefore Afrihost. They have a 20mbs download/upload product, which I think (hope) is sufficient for the occassional WFH and the usual Netflix/Showmax/BmwFanatics. They're charging R797 which I think is decent (or is it?).

Are there any other providers I should consider?

Thanks

Using Afrihost with Openserve. No issues to report thus far (latency spikes, speeds, outages etc).

Previously had Vox as a fibre provider. Terrible experience to sum it up.

I have been with a few providers. In my experience, Mweb might get you the cheapest deal (I think they still do the R399 for 10mb deal with a 300gb FUP). Surprisingly Vodacom has been the best I've had. Where I live they own the network so I had no choice, (a bit more expensive at around R700 for a 10mb up and down line) but things like your FUP is much higher than the cheaper packages (500gb). One cool thing I have noticed with Vodacom, what I have not had with other providers, if you stream or download during non-peak times your speed actually goes beyond your 'paid cap'. I've seen consistent downloads around 30mb for a while when doing updates and then go down to 10 when we hit peak times.

I'm in Morningside. Also using Openserve with Afrihost on a 100mb Fibre line uncapped. No issues at all.
I just moved house within the area and transition was smooth and effortless with them.

I'm in CPT on mweb, more out of ease than anything else - they were around R10 cheaper pm and more importantly charged 0 up front for installing ("installing" really as I did the setup myself - they just sent a router and connected my plug to their network remotely). Happy so far, no complaints. (100down 25up line speeds). We have 2 phones, around 5 pcs and a PS4 and a wifi connected TV, often streaming music, movies, downloads, gaming and PS4 stuff simultaneously with no issue.

I was with MWEB for the last 6 years, when we converted to fibre about 2 years ago the service became really bad (had to reboot router daily to get signal). Switched to Cool Ideas and happy so far, also they're a little cheaper than MWEB on their 100mb line.
