Excuse the ignorance bit Why would one do this?
I owned a few E36s and an E46 and E90. Never had issues with the viscous fan but did with the electric fan.

Mainly to score a couple of kw, but also if the viscous packs up. It's really simple, the wiring is all there. Just check the temp on the sensor in the radiator, make sure it's the 89 deg one, not the higher one, it's stamped on the sensor body. Fit the fan, connect up and off you go.

Well for me to do the change is mainly because of the noise it makes it makes me a bit crazy and if in the process I get extra KW that will be a bonus

Viscous fan is a POS, if that thing packs up it takes your radiator out, hoses, and stuffs your bonet up beautifully. when it goes it goes with an epic boom!

Electric fan is way better, I would much rather have an electric fan than my POS viscous noisy, energy draining time bomb of a fan!

Plus when your viscous fan switches on it sounds like your driving a truck, it stops your car from reving as freely!

:roflol: Couldn't have put this better myself, had this happen to me 2weeks ago, still very sour about it. Luckily my cooling system was due for a change out... Worst of timings tho  FML

You guys reckon the FDM is the way to go? How do your cars handle sitting in traffic tho without the fan? And the cost?
