F30 spare wheel options

Hi,

I would like to get a spare wheel for my car. I don't need oodles of boot space, so I am willing to sacrifice some boot space for a space saver spare wheel and a jack. Please advise if anyone has done this and what has been your experience.

My main requirements are neatness and ease of use.

Thanks.

You can buy space saver spare wheel from e60. It doesn't take too much space in the boot

Thanks for the advice guys.

I see that if I am going long distance (2-3 times a year), I would need the boot space, so the outlay for a spare wheel does not seem worth it.
I will stick to the N3/N2 highways, so I guess that BMW Road Side Assist will be able to assist with a spare wheel.

Does anyone know if BMW Assist carries spare wheels (even space savers) for RFT drivers that are unable to proceed with damaged RFT?

BMW On Call will send a wheel to you wherever you are if you have damaged your rim/tyre and cannot carry on driving.

Obviously you have to wait some time for them to get there as they have to collect a spare (the right size as determined by your VIN) and thendrive out to you.

You can then drop this wheel off at any BMW dealership within 48h (you will get extension of time if you request it - provided there is a valid reason for that). They will then send this wheel back to the dealership it came from.

Over December we ended up with a shot tyre in Colesberg. BMW ended up sending a wheel from Bloemfontein, but we had to wait around 4-5hours for it to arrive due to busy roads and only 1 technician on the roads that evening.

A space saver doesn't take too much boot space. Invest in it. The inconvenience of packing light is better than being stuck on the road in the middle of nowhere with no cellphone signal, trust me - it's called Murphy's Law :thumbdo:

The nice thing about the OP’s car is that it has connected drive with concierge as standard (it should have at least), so you’ll be able to phone directly from the car.

Hi All,

I am leaning towards the E90 space saver wheel.
JSN BMW says that it will fit the F30 hub (there is no F30 spare wheel option).
Price is steep at R6,500 including jack.

There is a space saver wheel / kit on the system for the F30.
It doesn't seem to be compatible with cars with the M-Sport brakes though.
Perhaps your car has those and that's why the dealer said that it wasn't available for your car.

We had a different experience in January though!! Got a blowout just outside Laingsburg and BMW on Call could not find a spare for us anywhere in Cape Town, Worcester or Kimberley on a Saturday afternoon :-( Ended up towing the vehicle to Worcester and they arranged transport to Cape Town for us. I then had to collect the car in Worcester later in the week. I would of preferred to have a spare available and just get my family home and sort out the wheels at my convenience later. Also avoid being stranded with family while having to wait many hours for BMW to assist.

You raise a good point zabbo. A spare wheel will also be beneficial once the MP is out, as I assume BMW only assists within MP.

I just wish there was a way to fit the spare wheel under the boot mat.

Thanks.
No, my car does not have M sport brakes.
I will follow up with the dealer today on this option.

You would need a set of roof racks as well.... Where would the full size wheel go once you replace it?
Front passenger seat, airbag deactivated. Front seat is always empty when I travel.
