F30 330D ASS not working

So this week it looks like my ASS decided to bail. Maybe not a bad thing, but on the 330D in town/stop start driving it definitely helps with the consumption/

On Monday it kicked in once on the way to dropping the kids at school, since then, nothing.

Any ideas? No warning lights, just no ASS

mine also does that. but mine it is the battery, my car stands a lot so when flattish ASS is dead but when charged it works fine.

correct me if I am wrong but also...long distance driving does not charge whatever battery ASS uses. it needs stop and go so I guess its regenerative break force or decompression on engine.

I have seen when the aircon is on in my car it sometimes doesn't work, other times it switches off the car for 10 seconds, then its back on. Never had it not working at all.

Book it in yes, best of luck.

O/T what genius decided that Assisted Start Stop is the best thing to call the system considering the acronym.

It can be codes to be turned off when the car starts.

Most probably one of the inputs it uses is not well. Steering/Temp/etc sensor probably.

I have not heard of the starter motors packing up yet, but I am also not comfortable with it in heavy traffic.. On/Off/On/Off.. meh

Nothing beats the fact that I still floor guys next to me at the robots while waiting for the motor to switch on, set off, switch to sport+... and they are sitting there getting revs and boost built up, haha :crazylaugh:

Hi

the actual acronym is MSA, there are a variety of possible inhibiters they can cause in to disable it self. from software ,steering angle, air con settings. one would need to connect the diagnostic computer to see what the last inhibiters were.

mattks no reason that battery hasnt been charging properly? maybe to much short distances?

Hi,

it is possible, if you have a trickle charger connect it overnight and see if it works later. Like I ,mentioned earlier, there can be a variety of reasons it doesn't engage but it could also be that there is a actual problem, diagnostics would give you a answer. Is it out of M/P?

Ok. So car was booked in today. Stop start is 100%. The problem is the air con which I mentioned to the service advisor seemed to be pretty weak. Turns out the stop start was 100% as the interior temp was never getting to the correct temp and therefor the engine was kept running while system was trying to get the temp to the correct level.

So right now my car is at northcliff auto been stripped so they can repair a leak in the air con system.

So 10 months in and 14000km I hit my second major snag requiring some part of the car been stripped.

Not impressed. Having come from the little Japanese cars I used to buy for 1/2 the price and drive 5 years with 0 problems, I have now spent 750k and had 2 problems requiring stripping of the car.

Update

Northcliff auto phoned me to let me know that they have opened a PUMA case with the necessary people.

They think the only way they can fix this problem is to replace the evaporator unit which entails removing the entire dashboard. I must say that I am not wild about my entire dashboard been stripped and removed, but what can I do, 10 months old, no ways can trade, loss will be horrendous.
