Does anyone know the difference between the A1 and the B8 engines on the F30 328i?

Sorry guys, just to shed some light on this. My new 328 was written off about 2 weeks ago. I will post a full thread on this tonight. But, it was replaced with a brand new 328i last week. What I have noticed was the different engine numbers. Old one starts with A18 and the new one starts with B81. How come the difference. Usually this means a different or updated engine.

Earlier builds had different pistons to the newer ones, as this was the key difference between 328i, 320i before. It's since been changed to a uniform set .

Yep was told the same from very good source directly from the Roslyn plant.

The reason why I put up this question was because the engine really feels different. The first one with the A1 engine number felt really underpowered. It also had that hollow aluminum sound like a small 4cylinder. The new one with the B8 engine number feels completely different. The power band is insane! Its got a very deep and throughty sound. Just like the six cylinder. Maybe its all in my mind, but there is a big difference!
