Good day Fanatics. Looking at the F30 320d auto for the Wifey, will have over 100000kms and be out of motorplan,

Any advice on purchasing these vehicles would be great, Any advice on maintenance on these vehicles will also be appreciated. Sure the maintenance cannot be as bad as the X5 :hammerhead:

Maintenance is very reasonable, paid R2800 for service at a dealership which included battery charging, two weeks ago. 110 000 service. The plan is to do oil change every 10 000 km
I just told myself that things like break pads and disks, I will do myself and minor repairs. Major repairs or faults that need codes to be read, will take to John in Hatfield. wiper blades ,Air filter, cabin filter and fuel filter I changed myself before taking the car for service. I can do the oil change myself but I need my book stamped for Hollard extended warranty. If it wasn't for that, I would do everything myself

It is pretty low, R1500 odd for oil change at dealership and R4500 every 3rd service, which includes few filters and the oil change.

Can have it done privately for much cheaper.

I bought mine at 142k, still going strong at 170k.

Which dealership charges R1500 odd for oil service? or did they have a special or some promotion?

Life is expensive in JHB, paid R2800 early last month for oil change. Was quoted about the same price by John. So it was a choice of either driving 120km to and fro hatfield pta or 6km to and from the dealership

At SMG Umhlanga i got quoted R1800 for a minor service and around R3500 for a major on my 320i

My advise would be to get that extended plan with it just for peace of mind should anything come up and surprise you. This is because SMG quoted me R27000 for all 4 shocks

My car is at 91000+kms and i got it at around 78000kms, still going strong

She went for an Audi Q5 in the end :rage:

Hopefully not the 2.0T?
Both the 2.0T and 2.0TDI have issues.
The oil consumption issue on the T and the incomplete DPF regeneration issue on the TDI (if you do mainly heavy traffic driving and not alot open road).

Audi have not perfected long term durability on their TDIs as well as BMW has. Full stop.

Don't listen to the Audi Doomsayers, My 2.0 tdi has 125k and counting with absolutely zero issues. Previous 2.0 T was traded with on 180k again only normal service items that's needed changing. All the best with new purchase and many safe kms

As with all cars, you get good ones and not so good ones.

My ex Audi 1.9TDI was purchased by my dad at 80k km and we sold to a friend at 320k km and it is now close to 400k, still running the original turbo and injectors. All depends on how the car was treated and cared for.

I don't think your model came with a DPF, which is mandatory on newer TDIs. There are numerous stories of DPFs clogging up badly when these cars are only driven in heavy traffic conditions.

As a side comment, I am a fan of the brand (owned 3, all since new), but after the issues experienced at higher mileages (my last one being on a TT), I am reluctant to award them the best reliability award. Sure, other brands give issues, but there are inherent lack of accountability issues with the brand in SA, especially on models released in the last 8 years which have known issues.

Bottom line, if the car is on plan or extended warranty, then all is good. If not, then watch out for these top 3 issues:
Oil consumption issues
DSG mechatronics or clutch pack failures
Clogged DPFs (TDI models)

Invest in a good extended warranty or get a good aftermarket mechanic, since Audi refuse to fix items and prefer replacing them in their entirety, which is very expensive.

These are not bad cars, just prepare yourself for the above and have enough cover on hand.

I had my 320d since 10 000km. Did oil change every +/- 7000km. So I paid for in between services and was about R1000. The gearbox oil change is aboot 5k. did mine on 70 000km. Im on 110000km and going strong
