F20 Order placed - Some Q's

Ordered and paid a deposit for a new 118i M Sport (MY2014)

- White
- Xenon's
- Sunroof
- 18" Wheels
- M Sport
- Auto
- Hands free with USB interface
- Black leather

Just have a few questions for current owners

Does the Hands free with USB interface option allow you to stream music via Bluetooth or is Convenience telephony with extended smartphone connectivity (NS) needed for that?

I also heard that if the car has a combox in the boot it can be upgraded via that - anyone know if the MY2014 models still have them in the boot or is it now built into the deck?

Thanks

I have a similar spec except F20 125i Msport

With regards to the streaming via bluetooth without extended connectivity the answer is no.

Extended connectivity can be unlocked via coding though , and requires no extra hardware changes.

What price are you getting the car at if i may ask?

Getting it at 370K all inclusive

I know it can be unlocked via coding but what im not sure about is weather the MY2014 models still have the combox which allows it.

I need to know for sure that it supports coding otherwise i'm going to have to get the extended option

No you wont be able to stream. You also wont be able to plug in an ipod using the standard white cable, you will need a Y cable from bmw. (Quite expensive from a dealer, can be found online for less, but be careful, it has a special decoder inside so it must be bmw compatible) This also means the decoding to analogue takes place in your ipod, instead of by the H/U, reducing sound quality.

Y cable:

My car has option 6NK, extended bluetooth. So I can fit a cradle to my car to charge my phone and use the external aerial. I can stream music from my phone and I can plug in my ipod directly using its white cable, I get album art on my idrive.

Album art.

All very nice, but a pricey option. I also have Harman/kardon sound so wanted the best level of sound quality from my ipod.

I'm sure they make different levels of comb box. Mine is quite big actually so not sure how they would squeeze it into the H/U. But I have the extended bluetooth, so its probably a more advanced one than what comes with standard idrive and basic bluetooth. I suspect why the advanced bluetooth option is so pricey is because of that hardware upgrade!

My car also has business navigation, but it doesn't change any of the above.

Ah okay im just going to buy the cable and code the car to allow 6NK functions

I saw that it is possible if you have Combox and CIC.

Cable should be about R300 from overseas

Option SA6NF doesn't actually seem to be available anymore according to the latest price list and the website configurator.

It's there on my pricelist from last year, but not any more. So check its availability.

Just make sure you get the right combox. I paid like R5500 for the upgraded bluetooth as the basic bluetooth/USB is standard on the 125i.

Hopefully I got more than some coding and a place to plug in my phone for that money!!!:uhoh:
