Whats up guys and girls,

Im new to the Beemer life and am looking at buying one of the above models.

I've had alot of guys say the 116i - 118i are prone to a number of issues and therefore started looking at a 125i (Msport hatch pref)

Any help on the topic is appreciated, this would be a daily car, I do a bit of driving in the week, my Mrs would probably drive more in the week with the car and I would use it for car runs or car photography shoots on the weekend so there will be a fair amount of driving involved.

Hey bud,

If you going to consider 125i, then consider the M135i as well too.

the rest under the 125i are prone to issues for sure, but you will enjoy the 125i power and upwards. fuel consumption between 125i and m135i not too far apart as well so fuel cannot be a deal breaker for you.

Thanks man. Really like the 135. Just depends what we can get in our price range.

More than enough with the torque to go with.. 380nm and 135kw! Definitely kicks a punch! Not to mention the fuel efficiency and reliability.. best value for money
Sweet. Will be test driving a few then will save and decide what to go for. Thanks a mil!

You definitely cannot go wrong with the 120d, its the best of both worlds and that motor does so well in the smaller body than the series. I means that same motor ran the 520d F10s like it was nothing, now imagine the exact same set up in the F20. If I have to sell the M135i, I would try find a 320d again, I have one before....it was hands down the best vehicle I have ever had (Diesel wise)/ The M135i is still a potent toy! lol

That sounds proper. I've always loved diesel for the torque and the fuel economy balance.

And they're the same price range as the 125i MSport that I've come across. Will try Convert the Mrs after we've driven both.

Definitely not a 116i or 118i, thye very attractive for their price, but speak to a few decent bmw specialists, and they will all tell you to stay very far.

I would seriously ask her to have no expectation, and test drive a 120D.
Once she feels the instant torque and especially with the 8sped auto, she will love it. And the torque will give that 'fast" feeling.

Also consider that the resale value in a few years will be better on the 120D than the 125i, as well as reliability on the 120D is much better.

Over 1000k on a tank on along distance trip surely will be a no brainier too.

Sounds good to me. Definitely willing to take a look at it!

The 120i & 125i share the same motor, just a bit of a different tune - not so?
Pre-LCI being the N20 which is known to not be very reliable... if that is the case, then I'd say you'd want to ensure you get an LCI model with the newer B48 motor if you insist on getting a petrol over the diesel.

I'd recommend and pick the diesel though.
