Does one have any ground to stand on if you find your car's been in an accident and the dealer claimed it was accident free?

That's not welds, it's seam sealer, applied by hand with a flat shape nozzle.

:nonono:

Ok then show me some pivtures of your f10 s seams then as 0some experts have said in there post its looks roboticly done :fencelook:

Ok well my 320d I have bought from McCarthy toyota. They said it had never been in an accident etc. Now I had I small fender bender at the back. And I took the light off and it was caked with body filler at the light mounting points. Then I noticed some rust at the top of my boot underneath which is only visible if you shove your head in the boot and look up. It seems water is leaking from the sealant. then I pulled the rubber off that seals the boot I could clearly see it had been worked on. What are the best steps to solving this? Will post pics tomorrow

Edit: sorry for hijack.

I had some work done on the e90 and it was dodgey , you could clearly see it then it was re done and they put some other type of seal on the joints and it look normal , the thing is on my car its looks identical on both sides but for a car that costs so much I am suprised , thats why I would have liked to view another one

The sealant looks the same as the other side. But the car has definitely been worked on. I'm going to take photos tomorrow and email the McCarthy aswell

I don't own a F10, I have a e39, but I do work in about all the car factories in South Africa. It might be robotically applied as it is not flattened at the end which should give it a smoother finish. I might be wrong and the German plant is by all means more advanced than any of our South African plants but here they apply seam sealer by hand as it is difficult to do and sometimes the finish does matter as in this case. Maybe BMW just decided that they don't care about how that area looks.:nonono:

It might be sealer, but its done by robot/machine, not by hand.....

Looking at some of the plant media and at the pictures again, you are right, might very well be applied by robot as they are the same on both sides, just funny that they wouldn't program the robot to apply the sealer to conform to the join line more. They might have their reasons. Does however look funny.
