I've got extended MP with motorite, paid R10k included in the finance of my 2010 335i N55 and so far haven't had any hassles (already replaced water pump and a new radiator ) once authorised by bmw dealership, payment was done within a few hours

Ultimately the choice is yours
Good luck bro

How does this work? Does your car have to be serviced by BMW? and if something breaks, does it have to go to a BMW dealership?

When they covered for the above claims, did they cover the full cost?

These MP's seem to be a bit of waste unless something really goes pear shaped.

I took my car through to BMW for a 70k service out of MP and it ended up costing me around R3500.

So now if I had an extended MP I lose out on the other R6500 not so?

I'm covered only for mechanical items, all wear and tear items like brakes and stuff aren't covered, and no its not compulsory to go to a bmw dealership, Amy RMI approved workshop will suffice, but for my piece of mind I prefer to send it to the dealership (and if they had to take longer than expected, a loan vehicle is approved until my car is ready)

Yeah but if you are confident nothing is going to go pear shaped or want to take on the risk why go with any warranty at all? Just pay cash. We did that exercise on my wife's Elantra and decided to just pay cash for services and deal with the unexpected maintenance cost as they come. I think they are targeted at people who want to do the 'monthly installment' for maintenance thing with the way Liquid Capital was explaining it.

On the M I have extended plan to 2019 since a new motor or gearbox is likely to cost an astronomical amount (last check 200K gearbox and 400k for motor) and there don't seem to be many sources of spares for such things... so it is worthwhile having that kind of cover and the R20K (including extra miles) it cost to extend wasn't much in the grand scheme of things on a car I don't see myself selling soon (if ever).

Yeah I hear you, in that case it makes sense.

I guess we never really know when or if things will go pear shaped.

Well I re-read that and realised it was confusing LOL. I extended it up until 2019. Expiring December 2018 :) Will still extend one more time to end of 2019 at this rate when the opportunity presents itself. I did it via owners circle and there were plenty of options online. Time, miles, combinations etc.
