Exhausts

Hi

I have a 03 Z4 3.0i, want to know what options you have with the exhaust to improve the sound . Not necessarily looking for improved performance but more growl . The system is soft and refined which is expected from the car but I want to change that.

Few places and have given me quotes on putting a 63mm stainless steel system.

Anyone out there that has changed there exhaust to get a better sound without braking the bank?

Many Thanks

Firstly what area??

Secondly, I suggest 57mm twin freeflow, not a single pipe, as there will be less droning sound if done proper.

Okay thanks , might just look at the second cat and have removed increases sound.
Do you know the cost to have a 57mm freeflow twin pipe fitted?

I'm repeating myself...

Firstly, what area?? as in where do you stay??

I know a guy in Pretoria, did my 325i exhaust, including custom headers, hence me asking

ET was here

I did a single normal steel 57 system from front to back and it cost 1800
so maybe a double 57 system would be in the 3000 rands range

but for just some more sound, just change the rear silencer, will be much less expensive

Hey

Im in Cape Town , I ended removing the 2 second cats , had a new wider stainless steel pipe put in(cost R900) had 2 new tips put on another R900 just for looks as it doesn't do much for sound.

Overall looks good with a sportier sound without it been to loud and over bearing. Still keeping it in line with the car.

Cheers

post pics of the rear so we can see the exhaust and the workmanship. Who did all the work?

Hi

Will post some pics when the car is finished , Powerflow did the work , he's friend has a place around the corner called 808 garage that specializes in BMW. Had a chat with them , gave me options that suited the budget and the sound I was after.

I replaced the rear box only with a Cowley 340mm SS box with tips on a Z4 30si...

It pops and bangs and this is pretty awesome, but turned out to be so loud from idle to 3,500rpm, that I'm going back to the stock rear with a mid section resonator delete.

Hopefully I can get to doing this on Saturday coming.

The Job was just under R2K, box was like R700 and the tips R250 each...

I do not recommend this mod, a BMW needs a BMW back box, period.

This morning I heard a 330 with cat-less manifold, straight through to a BMW OEM rear box, and it's sounds brilliant...

To be exact, my e46 330i is running catless 328i headers and the centre cats have been deleted with straight pipe and lastly, the golf tee mod.

Only silencers on the car are the stock x-pipe silencer and the back box.

Do 328i headers work well on the M54B30? How do you fool the sensors?

I might be wrong, but we did a system using owners own sourced 328 headers, and the headers came with built in attachments for the sensors, thus there was need to "fool" the sensors

Ah okay I see. Sometimes they re-weld in the bungs at a different angle which apparently "fools" the sensors. Remember Dick Smith from Powerflow in Cape Town telling me about this.

Powerflow did my work , but just simple took the second cats off , double stainless steel pipe and tips. Simple , increases the sound & not too costly
