Exhaust Confusion

Hi Guys

I want to fit a new exhaust on my E90 335 N55, but I have received so many different opinions from different shops I am very confused now.

What do you recommend I start with?

Stainless/Mild Steel?
Downpipe/Full System?[/size][/font]
Software?

I live in Gauteng but because Im a new BMW owner I don't know who the best people are to take my car to.

Any advice will be much appreciated!

Start with downpipe, then software. If you really want to do full exhaust I suggest only going to tmss.

TMSS are forum advertisers. Get into contact with them for exhaust advice :thumb:

And XFlow has a lot of knowledge with turbo'd BMW systems

Downpipe and software. Best bang for bucks. Sounds good and nice gains to be had. Once you get bored of that and want more etc, then do full exhaust.

cheapest route,
full system from after the downpipe, small performance gains, sound gains dependant on your requirements w.r.t. tubing size, box sizes etc

expensive route,
Downpipe and corresponding software, much greater performance gains, and some sound gains, but still muted if original silencers still remain fitted

overall best
combination of the the two above

when it comes to Mild steel or Stainless steel
it is a personal and economical choice (R/$)

Mild steel will be a lot lot cheaper, but over time it will rust due to condensation, at Sea-Level, it will rust very quickly unless treated

Stainless steel, expensive, difficult to work with, looks very nice if done professionally, so if you are a "stickler" for perfection, then nothing can replace the sense of pride in a shiny Stainless steel system, and the rust problem is vastly reduced, although not totally elliminated

Hahahah! Yip, once that modding bug bites it really bites hard. My 335 was the first car I did mods on and it was nearly something new every couple of weeks. Its really fun doing it in stages as most of the mods yield good gains.

I was trying to get the OP started, because after that he will be full bolt on in no time :rollsmile:
