So I took a gamble :) Not wanting to fork out around R9k for a BMW iPod kit and a pre-loved TCU1.5 I decided to buy a Dension Gateway 500s BT. Now, according to the Dension website as well as the tech guy I spoke to in the UK the 500s BT (also known as GW52M01) does not work on the 7-series.

Well, I bought one, and it worked out the box. With a bit of coding on the car it now act exactly as the BMW Bluetooth module would (phone name on iDrive screen). Again, all this from a device which I was told, categorically, would not work on the 7-er. The microphone supplied with the unit is not exactly pretty but it seems like an omni-directional one and it works perfectly fine.

Tomorrow I will tidy up the installation and route everything where I want it to go but the setup works flawlessly.

Cost of the unit was R4750 excl.

Very well done.

Hows the speed of the new units.

The 500 was a bit slow for my liking.

CD Text ?

The speed is perfect. It loads much faster than the CD changer did. Bluetooth streaming works flawlessly and so do calls over BT. All the text shows as it should.

One small niggle is that the phone book shows on the iDrive, the car won't initiate a call. This might be because I am on IOS9 beta, but either way I can ask SIRI to just call for me.
