So I took a gamble
Not wanting to fork out around R9k for a BMW iPod kit and a pre-loved TCU1.5 I decided to buy a Dension Gateway 500s BT. Now, according to the Dension website as well as the tech guy I spoke to in the UK the 500s BT (also known as GW52M01) does not work on the 7-series.
Well, I bought one, and it worked out the box. With a bit of coding on the car it now act exactly as the BMW Bluetooth module would (phone name on iDrive screen). Again, all this from a device which I was told, categorically, would not work on the 7-er. The microphone supplied with the unit is not exactly pretty but it seems like an omni-directional one and it works perfectly fine.
Tomorrow I will tidy up the installation and route everything where I want it to go but the setup works flawlessly.
Cost of the unit was R4750 excl.
